WATSON Shady Cove-Trail - Dr. and Mrs. Verne Wilson of Shady Cove were honored at a re ception on Sunday, May 10, given on the occasion of their 25th wedding anniversary by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Blaar, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Bartuss and Mr. and Mrs. Everett Faber in the Blaar home in Medford. The floral decorations for the reception and tea were of white gladioli with a white flower centerpiece. A cake was made by Mrs. Dick Bar tuss and decorated by Mrs. William Shepherd of Shady Cove. About 60 guests attend ed the reception and viewed the Blaars' beautiful gardens. Pouring were Mrs. Wilson's aunt, Miss Ann Forbes of San Diego, Miss Marjorie Sand fort, Mrs. Charles Adamson and Mrs. Everett Faber of Medford. Mrs. Dick -Bartuss of Shady Cove was in charge of the guest book. One of Mrs. Blaar's students, Fred Hau pert, of Medford, made a treasure chest, in which the guests placed silver dollars for the honored couple. Judge Edward Kelly of Medford was the guest speak er at a recent dinner meeting of the Shady Cove Rotary club held at the Rogue River lodge. Mrs. Dolph Larson of Shady Cove entered Osteopathic hos pital May 14 for treatment and observation, returning to her home in Shady Cove on Monday. She will convalesce at the home of the Bob Vin cents for awhile, under the care of Dr. Ferguson of Shady Cove. Dale Sawyers of Shady Cove underwent throat sur gery at Rogue Valley hospital last week. He returned home Monday and is able , to be up and out but must be careful about talking for awhile. He is convalescing. Harry Chubb of San Diego has been visiting with his brother and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Chubb, of the Cove Variety, Shady Cove. While here Mr. Chubb watched the operations at the sawmill and also went on one of Steve Wilson logging trucks to the logging camp. Other guests of the Chubbs have been Mr. and Mrs. Joe Campbell of Sunland, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Harl White and family of Napa, Calif., spent Mother's day visiting with Mrs. White's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alic Oliver, of Trail. Mr. and Mrs, Claude Close of Grants Pass spent the week end at their, summer home on Big Butte creek. The Closes are living at 111 Sav age Creek road in Grants Pass, and said they " would welcome having any of their old friends stop in and see them. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Hanson of Elk Creek, Trail, were hosts at their home on Wed nesday, May 13, for a potiuck dinner and social evening honoring the Rev. Bruce Mac Henry, vicar of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Pros pect, and St. Martin's, Shady Cove. The Rev. and Mrs. Mac Henry are leaving soon for Sandpoint, Idaho, where he has accepted a pastorate. His last service will be on Sun day, May 24. Their address, in Sandpoint will be 418 South First st. ;- Following the dinner the Rev. and Mrs. MacHenry were presented with a gift from the group. Kenneth Nelmes showed movies of the recent ground breaking ceremonies for the new St. Martin's church in Shady Cove. Those attending were Mrs. Ruth Sawyer, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Rodgers, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Monical, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Brewster, Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Watson and son, Lane, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Vincent and children, Kenneth, Mar ion and David, Mr. and Mrs. A. Mykelbye, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Nelmes and child ren, the honored guests, the Rev. . and Mrs." Bruce Mac Henry and the hosts, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Hanson and child ren, Margaret and Leonard. Mrs. Wendell Stalker of Shady Cove flew , to San Francisco last week for check up - and observation at the hospital there. The first really large sal mon of the. fishing season was caught last week by one of the good fishermen in the area, Allen Rodgers, of Trail. The fish weighed 27 pounds. Saturday night dances were resumed at the Elk Creek Country Playhouse with a dance being held Saturday, May 16, after the hall was closed down for a month. Dances will be held there reg ularly from now on until fur ther notice every first and third Saturday. A very nomi nal admission fee is charged and refreshments served. Mrs. Strother gave a report on the Siskiyou District Gar den club meeting which she attended last month. The les son, "color in flower arrang ing," was presented by Mrs. William Shepherd. Refresh ments were served by Mrs. Vachon, and co - hostesses, Mrs. Miles Williams and Mrs. Phillip Alicki, to 15 members and two guests, Mrs. Isabel Wunderlich of Shady Cove and Miss Ann Forbes of San Diego, who is a house guest of her niece, Mrs. Verne Wil son. A tour of the gardens of "Tottering-on-the-Rogue' was made by the group. The June meeting will be on the first Monday, June 1, instead of the second Monday, at the home of Mrs. Frank Flink, Old Ferry rd., Shady Cove. It will be an evening potiuck dinner with the members' husbands as guests. New officers will be installed at this time. Members are asked to bring ideas for next year's program. Jimmy Davis of Shady Cove has returned home from a trip to southern Arizona and Mexico. ; He took Mrs. Al Cooper and daughter, JoAnn, for a plane ride Sunday. They said they took pictures from the plane. Mrs. Peter Nashed of Shady Cove, accompanied Mrs. Leo Hoag of Prospect, on a day's trip to Corvallis where they attended the Oregon State Evaluation con ference of Great Decisions groups for 1959. The meeting was held at Oregon State college.. The two women also attended a luncheon in connection with the conference. Bill Matthews of Fuller ton, Calif., was a guest of Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Watson of Shady Cove. Bill, who is a landscape architect at a large nursery in southern Califor nia, showed color slides taken on various trips, among. them a series of slides of Mt. Whit ney, Mt.' Lassen, Mt. Shasta and surrounding areas, the Petrified Forest and some shots of the Arizona desert in bloom in one of the most pro ductive of years for a long time. Other Sunday guests of the Watson's were Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Clifford and Mrs. Clifford's mother, Mrs. Rose Singler of Medford. They also visited with Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Watson of Trail. Del Clifford is a member of the Old Timer's club in Medford and they drove out in their 1930 Packard Phaeton. There are only seven cars carrying the same number series as the Clifford car in the United States, he said. The Shady Cove- Trail Lions Auxiliary held their monthly business meeting at the Rogue River lodge. Offi cers . nominated for the com ing year are Mrs. Harry Goode, president; Mrs. Gus Olsen, vice - president; Mrs. Don Harmon, secretary and Mrs. Earl Sheppard, treas urer. The annual Elk - Trail school spring round-tip was postponed from Saturday, May 16, due to weather con ditions, and will be held in stead on Saturday, June 6. Each year, a large number of riders and others meet for a buckaroo breakfast at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Hanson held between 6 and 8 a.m. and then take an all day ride to some point of in terest. This event serves as a climax to the school year. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Goode mm m wt " 1 and son, Ralph, spent the week end of May 8 in Bend with Mr. and Mrs. Herb May field and attended the wed ding of Donna Mayfield to Jerry Johnston held at the First Methodist c h u r c hr in Bend, where the couple is now living. Mr. and Mrs. Herb Mayfield are planning to move to Shady Cove. Herb is working for Harry Goode. Alan Quail of Central Point spent this past week end visiting with his grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Athel Dudley, of Shady Cove. Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Spain, daughter, Delberta, arid son, Bruce, attended the dedica tion services held at the stockade at the summit of the Siskiyou's on Sunday. Mrs. Ray Briggs of Shady Cove was a guest of her daughter. Miss Phyllis Briggs, at the Mothers day week end held at the University of Oregon. Phyllis is a student. While there she attended a tea and reception held at the art museum. She said she especially enjoyed the all campus sings presented by the various halls, sorority and fraternity houses and the floats on the millrace at the university. Mr. and Mrs. Austin Smith of Shady Cove have rented their house on Longbranch rd. to Mrs. Marie Jordan and family. Both Mr. and Mrs. Smith were at their home in Shady Cove while Mr. Smith was on vacation. He has now returned to his job in Eugene but Mrs. Smith will stay at their home for' awhile. Timber Structures, Port land, was the only bidder at $21,101. Acceptance of the bid is subject to the "sche matic design," the county court said. The timbers will be used for construction of a bridge across Little Butte creek, at Brownsboro. Bids were called for on May 11.
