Recovery Chance

Nathan F. Twining, chairman
of the Joint Chiefs of Staff,
was given a good chance to

cancer.
The 61-year-old general,
who underwent surgery Tues
day at Walter- Reed Army
Medical Center, was expected
to leave the hospital in three
or four weeks and return to
his defense post a few weeks
after that.
The Defense Department
announced Thursday that a
cancerous tumor had been
found on a portion of Twin-
ing's left lung removed by
surgeons. It said there was no
evidence of cancer in other
areas of the chest.
"This is a single area," said
Brig. "Gen. James H. Forsee,
chief surgeon at Walter Reed.
"It has all been removed and
we thing his prognosis (out
look for recovery) is a good
one considering the fact that
this is cancer."
