The minus I might as well get out of the way. It was this: "Thunder Over Berlin," pre sented as a William EwaM drama, wasn't a theatre piece at all. It didn't build. It had no real climax. It contained not a plot, but a sequence of news events beaded together. Its charac terizations were extremely sketchy. The immediate events of the exercise were so thin that padding had to be added -newsreel films, dramatized interviews with sideliners, ex planatory talks by narrator Doug Edwards. All this aside, it was a use ful vehicle. Its material cen tered around the incident last February in which an Ameri can convoy of four trucks was halted at a Soviet checkpoint in East Germany for 54 hours. "Thunder Over Berlin" used this incident as a pivot upon which to swing a study of the snappish Berlin situation. In Terms of People A straight documentary of this sort might have proved painful to many viewers, but Circle Theatre wisely pitched its story in terms of people -the bored G.I.s detained by the Russians, the elusive So viet officials, the harassed American officials working semi-frantically to get the show back on the road. Some of the program's pre tend talks with actors repre senting Berliners were a little gummy, but the G.I.s were tedious enough to be real. The soldiers were well played by a quartet of unknowns-Don Spenje, Jerry Stiller, Gino Ardito and John Karlen. 4-H Club News Shady Cove Cut Upi The Shady Cove cut up 4-H club met recently at the home of Miss Edith Ann Lowery.
