4 GOLD HILL Mother's Day Observed By MRS. CLYDE KELL Gold Hill - Mother's day was celebrated by residents of , this area in various ways last y week end. Some families took ? trips, while others held family . gatherings, which were at tended by relatives and '' friends from out of town. "J. Several local people have returned to their homes here after vacations taken during the past few weeks. Mrs. Millie Walker returned to her home May 8 from Sa lem where she was a guest in the home of her neice and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ben NewL and children. Mrs. Walker was joined at the Newl home by her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Paine and daughter of Corvallis, and was their guest at a dinner Mother's day. Mrs. Newl is the former Phyllis Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Miller, Highway 99. north, and Mrs. Paine is the former 'Sybil Walker. . Mr. and Mrs. Delos Walker . and daughter, Miss Linda Lou 2 Walker, went to McMinnville where they were guests in the 5' home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Fred ill Herrmann. Mrs. Herrmann is j the former Dixie Lee Walker Mrs. Ruby Quakenbush re- turned from a Mother's day celebration in California where she visited her son and daughters and their families in Richmond and Oakland. v Mr. and Mrs. Gary Crouch er and daughter, Jamie Lynn, of Klamath Falls visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Malone, last week. Coming from Crescent City, Calif., for the Mother's day week end were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wilson and son, Bobby , Lee. Another family gathering was held in Central Point, when Mr. and Mrs. George Evans were hosts to a picnic I dinner at their home tnere. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. William Wright, Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Bailey, Kenneth Bail ey, Mr. and Mrs. George Smith, and Mrs. Nina Dusen berry, all of Gold Hill, Mrs. Dale Smith and Delmer Smith of Sams Valley, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Martin and daughters, Georgia and Donna, of Grants Pass, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Hanscom and children, Connie and Ronnie, of Central Point, and Mr. and Mrs. Lester Du senberry of Medford. Mrs. Nina Dusenberry is the moth er of Mrs. Wright, Mrs. Dale Smith, Mrs. George Smith, Mrs. Bailey and Lester Dusen berry. Visiting at the home of Mr, and Mrs. William Force, May 11 were Mr. and Mrs. Arty Laws, and Miss Elizabeth Laws, Ronald Laws and Miss Charlene Bornamann, all of Rogue River. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Pederson, and daughters, Jeanie and Sherrie, of Medford, attended a smorgasbord dinner at the home of Mrs. Pederson's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Alva Cook, Gold Hill, May 11. Also at tending was Charles Mathews, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Ly man, Sams Valley, attended a dinner party May 11 at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Bell and daughters. They were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Thompson and visited Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Force and family. Mrs. Byerly is the mother of Mrs. Gorham, Mrs. Bush, Mrs. Force, Mrs. Thompson and Mel Byerly. Mr. and Mrs. Alva Walker attended a ham dinner given May 11 at the Upper Apple gate Grange hall. - Mrs. Frank B. Lockwood, returned last week to her home on Lampman rd. after a two week's vacation in Cali fornia. In San Francisco she was a guest of Mrs. Lottie Perry. While Mrs. Lockwood was visiting her sister, Mrs. Una Westfall in SebastapoV they went to Petaluma, Calif., where they were guests at a potluck dinner and reunion of several friends, whom they had known in 1910. - Before . returning to her home here Airs. Mr. ' and Mrs. Ed Holmes, former residents of Gold Hill who have been living in San Fernando," Calif., have sold their home there and will move back to this area soon, according to friends here. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Sut ton have returned to their home in Idaho after visiting their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Sutton, and children, Shirley and Rob ert, Gold Hill. While they were here, Mr. and Mrs.Har-. old Gist were hosts to a fam ily gathering at their, home in Medford. Guests included the Leroy Sutton family and their -guests, Mr. and Mrs. John O'Dell and children Earl, Martha and Donna; Mr. and Mrs. Alva Wright and chil dren Jerry, Jackie and Jean, all of Medford; and Jim Mc Callister, Lake Creek. An oil painting by Mrs. Wallace ( Gean) Neece, en titled "Old Bridge and New Leaves," has been purchased by the Ray Kimmey family for their new Home on Lamp man rd.. ' The picture is a scene of the covered bridge at Wimer. Several local residents have sold their homes here to new comers. Among them are Mr. and Mrs. James Martin who live on Upper River rd. The Martins sold their home oil Second ave. to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Patterson, recently . of Williams Creek. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Governor have sold their home on Sar dine creek to Mr. and Mrs. Garland Shinn, of "Ashland. He is.a missionary in the American Sunday school un ion. The Shinns are recently of California. The Governors have bought property in the Water Park addition. Thursday, May 14, 1959 Seven Acts Are Scheduled During 'Scoutennial' Seven acts covering 100 years of Scout activities will be presented in the "Scou tennial" at the Medford high school stadium Saturday, May 16, at 7:30 pjn. . Over 5,000 persons from, northern California and southern Oregon are expected here Saturday for the Crater Lake Council of Boy Scouts circus. It is held every other year. More than 3,000 Scouts and leaders will participate in the Scoutennial. Dr. Billy Black stone is chairman. Explorer Scouts, demon strating tne txpioring pro gram of the Boy Scouts of America, will show in pageant form Scouting of the space age, covering hot rodding, rockets,. water skiing and all other activities of the new program, according to Andy Schmidt and Morley Lamp, directors for the act.
