Dental Assistants Hold Capping Rites, Election A candlelight capping cere mony and election of officers of the Southern Oregon socie ty of the American Dental Assistants association were held April 22 at the Red Cross building. Dr. Lee Mellish, advisor to the local society, presented the caps. He was assisted by Mrs. Audrey Reiss and Mrs. Bette Prosser. Medford women receiving caps were Mrs. Celeste Corn well, who is employed by Dr. Mellish; Miss Kay Cararra, employed by Dr. J. W. Burba; Mrs. Shirley Holm and Miss Donna Dale, Dr. Norman Cap ey; and Miss Norma Brain erd, Dr. Bernard Thompson. From Phoenix was Miss Kay Elsome, an employee of Dr. L. T. Pierson. Those from Grants Pass were Miss Grace Palmer, em ployed by Dr. Haley, Miss Jackie Woodson, Dr. R. Plan ner; Mrs. Evelyn Hillis, Dr. R. Right; Mrs. Carol Indicott and Miss Sara Martin, Dr. "W. D. Edwards, vice-president; Mrs. Chester Keene, secretary, and Mrs. Warren Strawn, treasurer. f Mrs. Walter Stroup, mem ber of the Jackson County Council of Parents and Teach ers and member of the Lone Pine unit, will conduct the ceremony. Mrs. Clark will report on the annual convention held recently in Corvallis. Attend ing the convention in addi tion to Mrs. Clark were Mrs. Stroup and Mrs. Warren Strawn. Program for the evening will be a panel entitled "Who's Got a Secret?" Panel mmbers wil be Mrs. Norman Jahn, Mrs. Ruth Bordon, George Thomas, and Mrs. Robert Scofield. Norman Jahn, unit presi dent, will speak and members of the executive board will be recognized. . Mrs. George Pauls' Brownie troop will present the colors and the pledge of allegiance to the flag. Mothers of chil dren in the first grade will serve refreshments under the direction of Mrs. Dale Pratt and Mrs. Pete McSwan. Mrs. Paul Dalton will be in charge of nursery care. The annual faculty dinner will be held May 27 at 6 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Clark, 545 Pierce road. Mrs. E. F. Edwards is in charge of the event. The school picnic will be held May 29. S. Dick inson was hostess at her home on Sardine Creek May 5 for the annual picnic luncheon of Gold Hill Health unit. Mrs. Ted Schoenemann, president of the group, was re-elected and installed for the ensuing year. Other officers installed included Mrs. Clar ence Parsley, vice-president; and Mrs. Roy Cameron, secretary-treasurer. The nominat ing committee was Mrs. Delos Walker, Mrs. Arthur Boye, and Mrs. W. S. Dickinson. Visitors attending the lunch eon and meeting were Mrs. H. E. Duel, Mrs. Carl Knapp, Mrs. Horace Beck, Mrs. Mar garet Brlitz, Mrs. H. G. Southall, Mrs. Donald Dick inson, Mrs. S. N. Seville, and Mrs. Jennie Lang. Most of these women became members of the unit at this meeting. Mrs. Paul Molloy, cancer chairman, reported that con tributions to the American Cancer society by residents of the Gold Hill area totaled $191. Members of the unit and other women in the commu nity Volunteered their serv ices to participate in the re cent cancer crusade held April 21. Miss Elizabeth McGalliard, school health nurse, reported that 17 children who will en ter the first grade in Septem ber attended the pre-school clinic held at. the Patrick school, April 22. The exam ining physician was Dr. A. Erin Merkel, Jackson county health officer. He was assisted by Mrs. Nina VandeWalker, clinic nurse and Miss McGal liard. Members of the unit who also worked on the clinic included, Mrs. George Dor man, Mrs. Wilmer Bailey, Mrs. Ted Schoenemann, and Mrs. Clyde Kell. Mrs. Delos Walker and Mrs. Wilmer Bailey, co - chairman for the March of Dimes the past year, expressed their, ap preciation to the members of the unit for their cooperation. Mrs. Schoenemann named committee chairman for the ensuing year. A letter of thanks to the committee members who fur nished cakes for the recent luncheon and meeting of the Jackson County Tuberculosis and Health association was read. An invitation to attend an annual Auxiliary tea Friday, May 15 between the hours of two and four o'clock at the Rogue Valley hospital in Med ford was received. The tea ob serves National Hospital week. This was the final meeting of the Gold Hill Health unit until September. Gardeners Plan Show Medford Garden club plans the annual spring flower show and silver tea May 23, 1 un til 8:30 pjn. at Hedrick Jun ior High school, 1501 East Jackson boulevard.
