Named Head News has been received here of the election of Miss Mikell Thurston, former Med ford student, to the office of president of the student body of Klamath Union high school. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Thurs ton Jr., 1641 Ridgeway drive, and makes her home in Klam ath Falls with an aunt, Mrs. Frank Z. Howard, head of the mathematics department at the Klamath school. The young woman is the second girl student body presi dent in the history of t h e school of approximately 1, 800 students. She has been a student there the past year and one -half, having trans ferred from Medford high school. She is a member of the Na tional Honor Society, Pep Peppers, Young Republicans, Job's Daughters and the a cap pella choir, and is the present second vice president of the student body. Chapter Slates Spring Luncheon Epsilon chapter, Delta Kap pa Gamma, will hold the an nual spring luncheon Satur day, May 16, at 12:30 pjn., at Rogue Valley Country club. Mrs. Clara Fader will be in charge of a Founders' day ritual and those attending the state convention held recent ly in Pendleton will give brief reports. Tudor Guild Style Revue Set For May 22 at Club The annual Tudor guild style show will be staged at Rogue Valley Country club at 8 pjn. Friday, May 22. In keeping with its theme, "Fash ion's Centennial Review," modes of various periods of the past century will be shown, as well as a. varied assortment of the carefree fashions of the approaching summer. Camp bell, 1395 South Peach street, announce the engagement of their daughter, Martha, to James L. Peart, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford L. Peart, 913 South Peach street. Both young people are grad uates of Medford high school. Miss Campbell is a student at Southern Oregon college and her fiance is employed at Medford Veneer and Ply wood corporation. Preceeding the style review guests will be entertained with a half-hour floor show arranged and directed by Mrs. Martel Peters, Ashland. Ac cording to the committee this opening feature, the exact na ture of which is a well guard ed secret, sets the tempo for the evening. Russ Jamison, Medford, will be the commentator for the style show. Mrs. Kenneth 'R. Beebe, Central Point, will play the background music, and accompany Mrs. Peters who will sing appropriate songs. Refreshments of a dessert and coffee will be served at the start of the eve ning. Medford stores presenting fashions are Burelson's, Had Iey's, Jean Hart's, Leon's, Leon's Tots to Teens, Mann's, Pick's Apparel and Rath's. Ashland stores are Carol Ann's, Fortmiller's, Green wade's and Park View, and from Eagle-Point, Town and Country. Tickets are now on sale by Tudor Guild members, and the participating shops also have tickets for sale. While enlarged facilities at the Coun try club will accommodate a substantial increase in the number of guests, it is still necessary to make reserva tions to be assured of a table, the committee stresses. Tudor guild works in many ways to assist the Oregon Shakespearean festival. Riverside Betrothal News Of Interest Here Announcement was made in Portland last week of the en gagement of Miss Juanita Emma Niemi daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George N. Niemi, 910 West 17th avenue, Eu gene, to Thomas Andrew Gail, son of Mr. and Mrs. Budd Gail, 416 South Groveland avenue, Medford. Miss Niemi is a student at the University of Oregon School of Nursing following two years of pre-nursing at the University of Oregon. Her fiance, a student at the Uni versity of Oregon Medical school, Portland, was gradu ated from Medford high school in 1954 and from Willamette university in 1958. The couple plan to be mar ried in September. Mary Kay Johnson Engagement Told Of Miss Johnson To John Surgeon Mr. and Mrs. Icel Johnson, 3267 Delta Waters road, an nounce the engagement of their daughter, Mary Kay, to John Surgeon, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Surgeon, Eagle Point. Miss Johnson is a student at Medford High school. Mr. Surgeon is a graduate of Eagle Point High school and is em ployed in the lumber indus try in the area. Miss Bessonette will grad uate this spring from Med ford high school and the wed ding is planned for June 20 at the First Presbyterian church. Mr. Abel is a student at Sacramento Junior college and is a member of the Uni versity of Oregon chapter of Sigma Nu fraternity. Wedding Rites Set for June . Ward, Plea- santon, Calif, chairman of the public relations committee of the National Federation of Business and Professional Wo men s clubs, will be one of the convention speakers. Convention headquar ters will be at the Medford hotel, and sessions will be held in 'schools of the city. Registration will open Friday at 10 a.m. and a state board meeting will be held at 1 p.m. at the hotel. On the convention schedule are the annual Fun Night, Fri day, this to be a Centennial banquet at Hedrick Junior High school; a breakfast Sat urday at the Medford hotel at 7 a.m. for incoming club pres ident: business sessions Sat urday at Medford High school from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; a formal banquet at Hedrick school Saturday, with Mrs. Ward as speaker, and with installation of state officers following; a no-host breakfast Sunday at Hedrick school to honor past state presidents. Hostess clubs are those of the Southern" Oregon district, Ashland, Grants Pass, Klam ath Falls, Lakeview, Medford, Roseburg and South Douglas. Mrs. Harriett Watson, Med ford, is district chairman. Spring Party To Be Tuesday The annual spring card party of St. Catherine's guild of St. Mark's Episcopal church will be held Tuesday, May 12, with dessert served at 7 p.m Only a few reservations re main, those in charge report ed. Husbands and wives will play in the parish hall and women guests in the guild hall. Guild members will make final plans for the party at their regular meeting Mon day evening. Pupils Present Piano Recital A piano recital featuring the pupils of the Misses Shir ley Hopkins, Darelyn Huson, Sharon Laing and Roberta Willet, was held recently at the home of Mrs. D. F. Huson. - The teachers, all supervised by Mrs. Huson, are affiliate members of the Oregon Music Teachers association. Pupils who took part were Rosann Warren, Pat Warren, Alice Cook, Marjorie North, Linda Wiloox, Judy Fogel- quist, Sheri Klimics, Don Lawrence, and Retta Culy. Graduate Student To Give Recital John W. Jones, graduate stu dent of music at Emporia State Teachers College, Em poria, Kan., presented his graduate recital May 5 in Beach Music hall' on the campus. " Mr. Jones is the husband of the former Miss Luella Jean Chavis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Chavis, 509 Oak street, Medford. The Jones' have a son and make their home in Emporia. Arnold, 1011 Reddy avenue, f (Lake Oswego photo) Richard Arnold Receives Honor Portland-Richard S. Arnold, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Arnold, 1011 Reddy avenue, Medford, was selected the out standing junior class student at the recent May festival at Lewis and Clark college. The honor is awarded for outstanding service to the col lege and community. Mr. Arnold was graduated from Medford High school in 1956. He had been a member of Medford school bands since his fourth year at Roosevelt school. His later school activ ities also included dramatics, the International Relations league, History, Economics, Civics association and the yell team. Young Arnold is president of his class; a member of Phi Mu Alpha, national honorary music fraternity; an Eagle Scout; and member of De Molay and the Christian church. The Prentice family plans to spend six months touring the United States, this being their first trip to Amer ica. The two men met in New Zealand during World War II, and have corresponded in the intervening years. Mr. Prentice was formerly owner and operator of a ho tel in Aukland.
