I 1 f2' --v "ttJ t & - lit 3hb LONG-TIME CONSCIENCE Frank Schoen, 64, of Red wood City, Calif., changed hi mind in the courtroom about going back to Nevada to face a 42-year-old murder charge he confessed to last week. Schoen, bothered by his conscience for 42 years, finally turned himself over to police and said he was ready to return to Reno. But after an emotional courtroom plea by his wife Hortense (left), Schoen decided to hire a lawyer and fight extra dition. Reno police are not sure just which murder Schoen is talking about SHADY COVE-TRAIL Attend PTA Convention Br EVALYN P. WATSON Shady Cove-Trail Mrs. Dave Bergren, Shady Cove PTA president, spent several days last week attending the PTA state convention held in Corvallis. Mrs. Bergren went to the convention with Mrs. Pat Shelton, Mrs. John Huffman and Miss Aedene Jensen, all of Eagle Point. Mrs. Lewis Dusenberry, Mrs. Carl Scott and Mrs. Glenn Albert, all of Trail, attended as representa tives of the Elk-Trail PTA. There was the largest turnout at the convention in history with a total of 1,276 being registered. Medford. was cho sen for the location of the 47th convention to be held there in 1960. Mrs. Leigh Gustison of Medford is the newly-elected state president. Jackson county was first in the number of representatives present from the various PTA bodies. Workshops were held each day at the college. The theme of the convention was "PTA in Oregon's Second Century." Some of the high lights of the convention were the mother's chorus and moth ers and dads' mixed chorus held Wednesday evening at the Coliseum, two magazine luncheons and an outdoor bar becue held at the school, re gional luncheons and a clos ing banquet. The theme of the keynote address was "Togeth er We Grow." , The next meeting of the Shady Cove PTA will be held on Tuesday, May 12 at the Shady Cove school. All inter ested persons are invited to attend. Mr. and Mrs. Miles Wil liams are now back at their home in Shady Cove after spending the winter vacation ing in Mesa, Ariz. Since re turning they have made a fishing trip to the coast in the company of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Novotny. Dale Sawyer of Shady Cove spent last Friday in Rogue Valley hospital in Medford undergoing tests and observa tion. He went back to work this week and is doing fine. TtiunJay, May 7, 19S9 Shady Cove market is now convalescing at the home of her mother, Mrs. Warren Pat terson, in Central Point after spending three weeks in Sac red Heart hospital with virus pneumonia. Mrs. Crank is get ting along well now. ' Jerry Pennington, three year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Pennington of Shady Cove, was confined to Osteo pathic hospital over the week end for treatment of head in juries sustained when he fell from a moving car when the family was returning from a trip to Butte Falls on Satur day. He was released from the hospital on Monday in good condition. The sympathy of the com munity is extended to Mrs. Laura Belvail on the death of her husband, Louis Belvail, on April 28 in a Portland hos pital. Funeral services were held on Friday in Medford with interment in Healdsburg, Calif. Mr. Belvails was well known in the area having been a member of the Shady Cove . Rotary club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The sympathy of the com munity is also extended to Don and Lawrence Sellers of Trail and Mrs. Mary Moore of Eagle Point on the death of teir father, Parley Sellers, of Trail at the home of ' his daughter, Mrs. Moore in Eagle Point last week. Funeral serv ices were held on Saturday in Medford. Mrs. Floyd Kelley was host ess for the birthday bridge club, at her home in Shady Cove, May 1. Mrs. Max Hawks, guest of honor, "re ceived birthday gifts from the members. Mrs. Hawks won first prize for high bridge score,, and the consolidation prize was awarded to Miss Pat Hawks. Refreshments were served after the games. Also attending were Mrs. O. L. Williams, Mrs. Leonard Thompson, Mrs.' Carl Hanson, Mrs. Arley Spain and Mrs. Dolf Larson.
