Superior General
Visits Hospital
Mother Philippe de Cesa
ree, Superior General of the
Sisters of Charity of Provi
dence, recently completed an
official survey of Sacred
Heart hospital, following a
similar visitation of the houses
of California conducted by the
Order.
- The Superior General left
Medf ord April 27 for Portland
and from there will visit the
various other houses of Ore
gon and Washington. Her
tour, at this time, will cover
approximately a six - month
period.
The Order of the Sisters of
Charity of Providence con
ducts hospitals, homes for the
aged, grade and high schools
in Canada and the United
States, in both the east and
the west. The general head
quarters of the Order are in
Montreal, Canada; provincial
houses for the Western United
States are in Seattle and Spo
kane, Wash.
One hundred and thirty-
five houses are under Mother
Philippe de Cesaree's jurisdic
tion.
Official visitations are made
yearly, at which time an op
portunity is given the visitor
to meet board members as
well as with members of the
medical staff.
Unique Group
Saves Suicides
Boston - (CPD - At least 410
would-be suicides are alive to
day, thanks to Rescue, Inc. .
,This was the report today
from the Rev. Kenneth B,
Murphy, the Roman Catholic
priest who founded the
unique organization to dis
courage self-destruction. He
described the activities of
Rescue, Inc., at the 10th an
nual Conference on Alcohol
ism. Founded last January as a
private, non-sectarian service,
Rescue, Inc., has headquarters
at Boston City hospital. Any
one contemplating suicide can
call the organization's well
publicized telephone number.
At the end of the line he will
find a sympathetic ear and a
reassuring voice. And soon af
terward a representative of
Rescue, Inc., will visit him.
Father Murphy reported
that one-fifth of those saved
from suicide were alcoholics.

Jordan Civil
Strife Feared
Cairo-TCPD-A shakeup in the
government of Jordan raised
fears today of civil strife, in
creased Communist influence
and a possible attack by Israel
should the Reds come into
power.
Premier Samir Rifai, 57,
known as the strong man of
Jordan, resigned Tuesday and
was replaced by Hazza Mejali,
42, in a move that brought
new attention to Jordan's pre
carious position in the Middle
East.
King Hussein named Maja
li premier a few hours after
Rafai resigned because of ill
health. He said there would
be no changes of policy, but
Middle East diplomats here
feared Rifai may have been
the only man capable of hold
ing Hussein's kingdom to
gether. They feared the Commu
nists, already entrenched in
neighboring Iraq, could bene
fit from any upheaval in Jor
dan and they feared the reac
tion of Israel in any such
event.
