Gas Taken - Merle Arthur Preston, 520 North Front st., told Medford police of the theft of 9 or 10 gallons of gasoline from his panel truck Sunday night or Monday morning while the vehicle was parked in the alley behind that address. Driver Cited - Marilyn Jeanne Albertson, Bel Air Trailer court, Medford, was cited for violating the basic rule Monday after her vehicle struck a parked pickup truck registered to Henry Francis Padgham, 2707 Springbrook rd., on North Riverside ave. between Manzanita and Wal nut sts., Medford police reported. X-Ray Clinic The chest x ray clinic at Sacred Heart hos pital will be open Wednesday evening, May 6, from 7 to 9 pjn. and Thursday, May 7, from 2 to 5 p.m., according to the Jackson County Tubercu losis and Health ass&ciation, which sponsors the clinic. Hit by Train-A car driven by Angel Inge Ingle, 1978 Table Rock rd., was struck by a Southern Pacific railroad diesel locomotive operated by Delbert Hebert, Eugene, last night at the Fourth st. grade crossing, according to Med ford police. Police said Ingle's car was damaged in the right rear - section, while the loco motive incurred no damage. Police said the two boys, both 12, had started fighting after an argument during a game of marbles, and that one received a bloody nose. Business Names-Stanley D. Straus and Dudley P. Permits-Two building per mits were issued Tuesday by the city building department. One was issued to Ralph Pat terson valued at $12,000 to erect a duplex at 530 Whit man ave. The second, valued at $9,000, was issued to M. J. Jordan to erect a residence at 2400 Obispo st. Film Tonight - The color film, "One Hundred Thous and Souls," will be shown at 7:30 o'clock tonight at the Phoenix Assembly of God church. The film traces the story of the Bethany Bible college. Speaker at the service will be the Rev. Leland R. Keys, president of the college. The items were valued at $5.89. File Names Assumed business names have been filed in the Jackson County clerk's office for Hull Orch ards and Jim's Pump Sales and Service. The assumed name for the orchards was filed by Lawrence D. and Ann B. Hull, route 2, box 243, Cen tral Point. James C. McDow ell, box 117, Talent, has filed the pump sales name. . Gas Ignites - A 48-inch cir cle of wall was scorched about 5:15 p.m. yesterday when leaking gas ignited at the George Herrick residence, 611 West 11th st. Firemen said that the fire broke out when the owner was installing a gas range. They reported that he turned off the gas and ex tinguished the flames and that the fire was out when they ar rived. ' Collision - Vehicles oper ated by Robert Danie Nel, 790 Ellendale dr., Medford; Raymond Clifford Bush, 405 Earhart st., and Jim McKes ter, Sterling rd., Jacksonville, were involved in an accident on North Riverside ave., be tween Sixth and Main sts., at 7:50 ajn. today. Neel was cited for following too close, according to city police rec ords. Parking Problem - Eva Al- lene Filatreau, 511 South Riv erside ave., reported to city notice Tuesday afternoon that vehicles from the service sta tion at 501 South Riverside ave., were blocking her drive way. An officer contacted Robert Harold Corliss, station owner, who reported that the narkine lot belonged to him. Police informed Eva Filatreau that she had no legal right to park on Corliss' property. . Flowers - Grace May Ed wards, 1105 West Fourth st., reported to city police Tues day morning that children were picking flowers at her residence. Surgery Patients-Mrs. Cora E. Henriksen, box 65, Talent, and Mrs. Jerome MacDougall, 425 Lynwood ave., Medford, were reported as surgery pa tients at Rogue Valley hos pital today.' Tonsillectomy Gary Chil ders, 10-year-old son of JVIr. and Mrs. Thomas Childers, post office box 305, Eagle Point, underwent a tonsillec tomy at Rogue Valley hospital today. Medical Patients-Mrs. Gay Pestka, route 1, box 385, Eagle Point, and Coleen Knapp, 1006 Sunset ave., Med ford, were listed as medical patients today at Rogue Val ley hospital. . Dog-A vehicle operated by Folke Victor Orling, Canyon ville, struck and injured a dog on Court st. between Mc Andrews rd., and Manzanita st., Tuesday evening, accord ing to city police. Police re ports show that the dog was disposed of. Obituaries MOLLY FOSTER 1 Funeral services for Mrs. Amelia Charlotte (Molly) Fos ter, 80, of 212 West California st., Jacksonville; who died Tuesday; will be. held at 2 p.m. Friday in Chapel Mor tuary. Capt. William A. Rick en of the Salvation Army will officiate. Interment will be in Logtown cemetery. Mrs. Foster was born in Sweden . May 2, 1879. She came to Massachusetts as a young girl, and then to Ore gon in 1905. She was married in Worcester, Mass., in Octo ber of 1926 to Harry Arthur Foster, who survives. The couple came to the Jackson ville area in 1929 and have resided there for the past 30 years. She was an active worker in and a member of the Sal vation Army.' Besides her husband, she is survived by a number of rela tives in Sweden. ' Ashland Council Member Dies Ashland - LeRoy Clifford Ostrander, 63, of 126 South Pioneer rd., died Tuesday in a Medford hospital. He was an Ashland city councilman having served in that capacity for the past 2V years and was head of the electric com mittee. Last night's meeting of the city council was cancelled due to Ostrander's death, and has been rescheduled for May 12. Mr. Ostrander was born Dec. 28, 1895, in Waterloo, Ore., and married Elizabeth Gossett in Portland, Aug. 26, 1924. At that time he was em ployed by the Southern Paci fic railroad and lived in Sis kiyou, Ore.. The couple moved to Ashland in 1924 where Mr. Ostrander had been Southern Pacific agent. He was active in the First Church of Christ, Scientist, for the past 33 years, was a member of Masonic AF&AM lodge, Ashland, and a jnem ber of the Chamber of Com merce. Survivors include his wid ow, two daughters, Mrs. Alice Vavruska, South San Francis co, Calif.; Mrs. Paula R. Smith, Santa Clara, Calif.; one son, Arthur Ostrander, Daly City, Calif.; a foster daughter,' Mrs. Faith Zito, Long Island, N.Y., 9 grand children, and one brother, Robert Morton, Porterville, Calif. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 8, at 1:30 p.m. at Litwiller's Mountain View chapel. Interment will be in Mountain View cemetery. SAMUEL B. BEVERLIN Funeral services for Sam uel B. Beverlin, 72, who died Tuesday at the Veterans Ad ministration D b m i c i 1 iary, Camp White, will be held at the Camp White chapel at 9:30 a.m. Thursday. Chaplain Roger Pryor will officiate. Committal will be in the Camp White cemetery. Perl Funeral home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Beverlin was born Sept. 4, 1886, in Kinney, W. Va., and was a veteran of World War I. Martin, 58, of route 1, box 359, Gold Hill, died this morning. Funeral ar rangements will be announced by Conger-Morris, funeral di rectors. " Man Sentenced to Penitentiary Term Victor Borkowski, 47, Jack son hotel, yesterday was sen tenced by Circuit Judge Ed ward C. Kelly to four years and three months in the state penitentiary for uttering and publishing a false check. ' Borkowski was charged with issuing a bad check in Medford on Jan. 8. On April 24 he pleaded guilty to dist rict attorney's information. The case was continued for receipts of an FBI report. Wayne Keys, 21, of Jackson ville, was bound over to the grand jury on grand larceny charges yesterday in district court. He ischarged with tak ing a short horn heifer calf from Peter R. Bateman, Dec, 27. Railroad Rate Curb Seen Blocked Salem (DPD A bill spon sored by the Oregon Trucking Association to give the .pub lic utility commission power to block railroad rate reduc tions appeared dead today. The measure was sent back to the House Judiciary Com mittee by a 33-26 vote. At present the PUC can intercede in rail rate in creases on intra-state ship ments but has no statutory authority to suspend rate reductions. The bill now goes to the governor for signature. Rep. William. Holmstrom (D-Gearhart) said the money would be used in pond rear ing and natural spawning area research. Rep. George Annala (D Hood River) protested that the bill was just another way of raising taxes and that the State Fish and Game Commis sion had no cencrete plans as to how to use the money. Holstrom said that Wash ington has had good luck with rearing pond experiments to preserve fish resources and that Oregon needed a similar program.
