District, are battling each other and the centest is being carried down to store against store. Transport Workers Tie Up Manila Port Manila- (DPI) -Transport workers, striking in sympathy with a white-collar office em ployees' union, tied up the port of Manila Friday. Non-striking longshoremen honored the picket lines the transport workers threw acress the approaches to the harbor area, and work on the docks came to a full stop. March of Dimes Nets $14,902,97 In County Drive The January March of Dimes drive in Jackson coun ty netted $14,902.97, it was announced last week by H. Price Shafer, campaign treas urer. , Medford led the county with a net total of $8,435.68. Ash land was second with $2,417.73 and Central Point third with $1,449.32. Other county re ceipts were Prospect $859.42, Phoenix $857.13, Eagle Point $727.38, Jacksonville $267.62, Rogue River $201.91, Gold Hill $187.70 and Talent $171. 10. County campaign expenses totaled $838.52, which in cluded purchase of supplies from the National Foundation. Of the total amount collect ed in the county, 25 per cent has been sent to the National Foundation's patient aid pool. This amounted to $3,725.74. The pool assists chapters which have had such a patient care load that funds have been de pleted. Of the remainder, 50 per cent or $5,588.61 went to the National Foundation and an equal amount was retained by the local chapter for use in the county. " Major fund raising projects included individual gifts $189.34, club and organization gifts $501.50, corporate arid employer gifts $593.66, em ployee gifts $1,124.06, collec tions in schools and colleges $1,385.45, Mothers' March $2, 831.58, coin collectors $569.04, general mailings $2,847.80, ra dio and television $43.47, Teen-Age activities $4,006.81, and other special activities $1,648.78. Buffalo, N. Y.-OJPD-Buffalo police are looking for an ac commodating two-gun bandit. While he waited for a tavern waitress to fill a green satchel with more than $2,000 in cash, the bandit calmly told several customers to "keep right on drinking.". 5 p!2 league TAKES COMMAND - William O. Herring, Medford, tells James D. Parker, Klamath Falls, of a quick dive a submarine on which he served during World War II took. Herring re ceived a certificate of commanding officer of the Oregon U.S. Submarine Veterans of World War II. Parker is former commander. Herring said he believes there are about 12 Navy veterans eligible for membership in the organization. Eligible members are those who served, aboard a submarine or in a relief crewhe said. Herring is former Navy recruiter in Medford. f Grange News Butte Falls Grange Butte Falls Grange w&l hold its regular meeting at 8 p.m. May 4. The recently or ganized Girl Scouts and Brownies will present a pro gram of folk dancing and songs. Mothers of the girls and friends are invited. . Grange members have been asked to wear Centennial cos tume if they have them avail able. Upper Applegaie Grange As its contribution to the celebration of Oregon's Cen tennial, Upper Applegate Grange will hold a public din ner on Mothers Day, Sunday, May 10 honoring pioneer mo thers. ' The dinner, featuring ham, will be served between 1:30 and 3:30 pin., in the Grange hall, according to Edna Saw yer, chairman of the Home Economics club. Preparations are being made to accomodate 200 guests. It is suggested that those wishing to do so, come in Centennial attire. Advance reservations are not required since tickets may be purchas ed at the door. Members of the HEC held a work day at the Grange hall Thursday in preparation for the event, and final details will be completed at the reg ular meeting of the club on Monday, May 4, which is also to be held at the hall. Grange members having small, old fashioned dishes, mugs, pitchers, sugar bov.ls and the like, which would be suitable containers for little bouquets, are being asked to lend them for use in table decorations for the dinner. They may be given to Mrs. Sawyer or brought to the next Grange meeting May 8. ; Dr. Edwin Durno, state sen ator from Jackson county, will be guest speaker on vis itation night, May 8, when Upper Applegate Grange will be host to visiting members from other subordinate Granges of the county. Senator Durno will discuss aspects of current legislation of special interest to his con stituents, and will answer questions. Other program numbers will be presented un der direction of Grange Lec turer Vieva Saltmarsh. Teamsters Strike Tillamook Factory Tillamook-rtJPD-A strike by members of the Teamsters un ion continued at the huge Til lamook county cheese factory here Friday. The wage dis pute had idled more than 200 workers since Thursday. The dispute involves some 20 employes of the fluid milk department. They asked a 15 cent per hour increase, over their present $2.24 anhour rate and turned down a seven cent an hour boost offered by the Tillamook County Cream ery association, which oper ates the plant.
