HORNBROOK
Horbrook A contingent of
local Grange members board
ed the grammar school bus
here Friday evening for a trip
to Dunsmuir, where they were
dinner guests of Castella
Grange in their hall
After dinner, Castella pre
sented an hour-long program
of entertainment, followed by
dancing.
Making the trio were

Shinar, Mrs. Mollie Cole, Mrs
Ardon Burns, Mrs. John Syl
via, Mrs. Ida Chapman, Mrs,

school bus driver, drove the
bus, and Mrs. Freitas and then-
children, Maxine, Alice and
Arthur, also were guests of
the Grange.
Several members from
Hornbrook of Stella Chapter
No. 39, Order of the Eastern
Star, of Yreka, attended chap
ter meeting Friday night for
the official visit of Deputy
Grand Matron, Lucille Gay
nor.
They were Mr. and Mrs.
Thomas Watt, Mr. and Mrs,

tee, of Hornbrook, was one of
the class of candidates initi

Larry McMaster, youngest
son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin

At the Parents club meet
ing at the school on April 16,
the following officers were
elected for the next school
year: president, Audrey Kutz
key; vice president, Lorraine
Titus; secretary, Elsie Hogan;
treasurer, Gloria Fisher.
Plans were made for the
annual end-of-school picnic.
Inasmuch as Hornbrook has
a new school, and all new
equipment, the club voted to
give each room $25 cash out of
the club treasury to purchase
anything they might want for
their room.
This "procedure was fol
lowed in place of the usual
school-wide project the club
undertakes each year.

parents. The baby's two great-
grandmothers, Mrs. Zela El
more of Hornbrook, and Mrs.
Anna Wolff of Central Point,

Hornbrook for the position of I
trustee on the school board.
It is that of Ray Blanken-

Costs of Removing
Litter Are Reduced
Salem - Junior Eckley, lit
terbug chairman for the state
division of the Izaak Walton
League of America, has re
ported that the cost of remov
ing litter from state highways
and parks has been reduced
to almost a third of what it
was five years ago.
Eckley noted that $52,500
was spent last year in picking
up trash along highways and
in state parks, compared to
$64,748 in 1957, and $142,-
000 in 1954.
Part of the reduction was
credited to trash barrels
along highways, and part to
support by garden clubs and
other civic groups to anti-litter
campaigns.
Friday guests at the Harry
Chapmans' were her cousin,
Mrs. Doris Steele, Mrs. Edna
Storts and Mrs. Alice Decker,
all of Los Angeles.
They spent the week end
in Medford visiting friends,
then continued on to Ten-
Mile, Ore. where they were
to visit Mrs. Storts' brother
for a few days, then return to j
Los Angeles via the coast
highway.
