c School Medford High School Edited by Barbra Null ton. Reporters, Rosemary Eismann, Peggy Fisch, San dra Kline, B. J. Hale, Nor alene Schell, Margie Good, Tanya Enders. De Russell, and Connie Hinesly. Whoever said the only day you will find a 100 per cent attendance in school is the day of the class picnic was not referring to the teenager of today. This past week, having been Boy's and Girl's League week, a time dominated by an abundance of activities with formal education in the minority, found a large per centage of the MHS student body absent. The main reasons for absences were smudging, colds, flu, and perhaps a touch of spring fever. The Boy's League assemb ly held April 6 began the an nual Girl's and Boy's league week. Predomin in the program were hits made popular by the Kingston Trio. Ken Hall and Jim Collins and a group who call themselves the "Strollers" composed of Ray Konopasek, Keith Berg, John Frohnmayer, and Paul Moore sang a variety of the King stor tunes. A group of "spiritual" sing ers, Bob Quinney, Lowell Dean and Pat Dunlevy, also entertained. The tale of "The Red Head ed Stranger" was portrayed by George Ice as the strang er and Tom Laurance as his faithful yellow-haired woman. A parody on "Gunsmoke" was given by "Marshal Den nis Barr, "Kitty" Gary Wine trout, and "Chester" Tom V JEWELERS D 129 South Central SP 3-4922 20 O On All Purchases Made Entirely With Silver Dollar Trading Stamps At Picard's of Medford Jewelers CREDIT GLADLY Roy Pieird" Certified Master Watchmaker Classified Firm Lawnmowing LAWNMOWING Occasional or regular service. Fashion was the word April 8 as all students were dis missed at 2:15 so the girls could prepare for the mother daughter style show and tea. Girls from home economics classes modeled fashions they had made and approximately 70 girls participated in the event. Crazy hats, grubby clothes and made-up faces-all this re galia was seen as a part of Grubby day, one of the spec ial occasions of League week. The faculty volley ball team remains undefeated for the mere fact that the senior boys didn't appear for the scheduled senior-faculty vol ley ball game Thursday. The reason for the mass ab sence of senior boys was poor advance advertising. - Students at MHS had their annual sack lunch day April 10. Students could eat their lunches on the front lawn or in the gyms. Instead of the usual three lunch hours, all students shared an hour-long lunch hour. Because the cafe teria even with its new facil ities can't hold all the stu dents, the boys won a coin toss which decided who would be the first allowed in the cafeteria; thus they were ex cused ten minutes before the girls. - The climax to Girl's and Boy's League week was the "Cotton and Cord" dance Fri day night. It was girls' date and couples only. There was no charge but student body cards were required. The dance was attended in large numbers. Six juniors have had their poems . accepted for publica tion in the spring edition of the National School Anthol ogy book. Those whose poems were chosen are Dick Peter son, Mildred Boyd, Judy Bash, John Frohnmayer, Penny Sampert, and Anne Mathews. The History, Economics, and Civics club held a meet ing April 7. ARTI CLE XI, STATE CONSTITUTION Notice is hereby given that an election will be held in each Non- High School District of Jackson County, State of Oregon, from 2:00 PJVI. to 8:00 PJU. on May 4. 1959, at schoolhouse in said school dis trict, for the purpose of submitting to the legal voters of said district the question of increasing the tax levy for the fiscal year 1959-1960 over the amount limited by section 11, article XI, of the Constitution of Oregon. The amount of tax. in excess of the 6 limitation," proposed to be levied for said fiscal year is S12.950.00. Dated this 9th day of April, 1959.
