Eight models of the 1959 Fiat, ranging from sturdy two-door sedans to sportsmen's convertibles, comprise the " line handled by Jay Allen company. Family station wagons that sleep three persons also ,are available. The manufacturer combines "big-car" roominess with economy of oper ation, according to the dealer, and some models get up to 42 miles per gallon of gasoline. Allen's agency provides a Fiat trained service team and large quantities of Fiat automotive parts. ILLINOIS VALLEY Centennial Dinner Held By RUTH RAUSCH Cave Junction - Wally Eichler and Robert Kellen beck of the Illinois Valley Hieh school faculty were recognized for the best beards at the high school PTSA Cen tennial potluck dinner re cently. Officers were elected at the business during the regular meeting following the dinner An agreement to consider dis solving the high school or ganization resulted when all nominations for president were refused. .Two alternate suggestions to complete disolvement were made are now under con sideration: (1) to cut the meet ings to two or three in each school year; (2), to hold joint meetings with other schools In the valley. Nominations for other of fices were accepted by Mrs. Van Johnson, vice president; Howard Walton, teacher vice president; Buster Castleberry, treasurer and Mrs. Monte Heald, secretary. , Principal Vernon Larson was in charge of the program for the evening. Coach Eldon Durham explained the athe letic program of the school and Mrs. Rose Benge talked on the guidance counciling service for the students and parents which the school offers. An open question and answer session followed the speeches. The Josephine County Council of the Parent Teacher association will hold election and installation of officers Wednesdav at Illinois Valley High school. Entertainment will be provided by the mixed quartets from the high school choral group under the direc tion of Van Johnson. The Illinois Valley Mineral and Hobbies club met Tues day at the Cecil Fessler home in Kerby. Mr. and Mrs. John Wilder and John Valen be came new" members. Most of the meeting was devoted to plans and arrange ments for the rock display planned for the Centennial observance. The special com mittee working on the proj ect were given private rock collections by each member to prepare the exhibit. Mrs. High Miler is chairman and working with her are Mrs Dale Tucker and Mrs. Earl Boyd. Earl Bronson of Wilder- ville, retired after 30 years of service in the U.S. Navy as a Commander, was guest speaker at the Illinois Valley Democratic club meeting Mon day. He spoke on his work of administering taxes for the government in the Pacific islands. Another Centennial dance, sponsored by the Democratic club is scheduled Saturday night, April 11, in the Legion hall with Gary Ellis' band, The Jokers, furnishing the music. Refreshments will be served by the Legion auxiliary. One of the shots will be a Discoverer II earth satellite which might carry an instru ment capsule into the outer atmosphere and reject it in an attempted recovery proj ect. The other shot will be a Thor intermediate range bal listic missile fired for the first time by a Royal Air Force missile crew now in training at Vandenberg Air Force Base where the shots will be I held. A Thor missile exploded and was destroyed Thursday in a static firing on a launch pad at Vandenberg, about 170 miles north of here. The Air Force reported there were no casualties. Carpenter Scale Said 'Not in Line' Portland (UPD The Port land District Council of Car penters says a 53-cent hourly wage package spread over three years is "not in line with the pattern set by other building crafts in the Port land area." The Council said the pro posal would put Portland car penters four cents an hour be hind Seattle. Carpenters will complete voting by April 18 on the em ployer offer, already accepted by upstate and southwest Washington councils. Drivers Union members also will vote on the offer Sunday. G. A.
