BUTTE FALLS Banquet Scheduled By MARY JO HARRIS Butte Falls-The Junior-Senior banquet will be held Fri day, April 10, at 6:30 p.m. at Mary's Casa in Medford. Those attending will be the junior class, senior class, fac ulty and guests. Class advisor is Mrs. Bob Cupples. Members of the Home Ex tension unit met at the home of Mrs. Tom Stanton for their April meeting. Mary Pat Lucy, county extension agent from Medford, demonstrated "Distinctive Foods." Election of officers was held. New officers are Mrs. Harry Dalton, chairman; Mrs. Clyde Moore, vice chairman; Mrs. Keith Scott, secretary; and Mrs. Dean Boggan, treas urer. Members of the Derby Home Extension ,unit were guests at the meeting. Plans were discussed for a May Fes tival and a tentative date was set for May 21 at the Derby school from 10:30 ajn. to 3 p.m. Two new officers were elected at a recent meeting of the Girl Scouts to fill va cancies. Officers were Pauline Clymer, scribe, and Beverly Oden, treasurer. The Girl Scouts are now weaving bas kets from reed. Regular meeting of the PTA will be held Monday, April 13, at the high school at 7:30 p.m. Mrs. Lee Jolliffe recently entered the Rogue Valley hos pital for minor surgery. Af ter spending several days in the hospital, "Mrs. Jolliffe has returned to her home where she is convalescing. Mrs. Lester Dabbs has re turned home following a sec ond visit to the University hospital in Portland. The eye condition has healed, she re ported. Medco men returned to work Wednesday, April 8 following a 2Vz week lay-off for repairs. Members of the Lions aux iliary met Tuesday evening, April 7, at Scotties cafe for a combination meeting and party. This is the beginning of the seventh year for the Butte Falls Lion auxiliary. Following a short meeting, games were played and re freshments served. White ele phants were awarded for prizes. Several members were dressed in centennial and western costume. Visitors from Medford were Mrs. Dan Dwyer, president of the Cra ter Lions auxiliary. The Cra ter auxiliary sponsored the Butte Falls group in 1953. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Rodgers and family spent Easter Sun day at .the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Rodgers at Eu gene. Bill is a nephew of the Rodgers. An Easter party was held at the home of Mrs. Charles Ferguson recently for the be ginners Sunday School class from the Community Bible church. Children attending were Vanessa Facey, Darlene Fisher. Tracy Mallov. Roeer Harris, David Ferguson, Kar yn and Elaine Smeltzer, Judy Chambers, Mark and Terry Ellis, Pamela and Joyce Wiese. Mrs. Ferguson teaches the' beginners class. Mothers helping at the party were Mrs. Ralph Wiese, Mrs. Ed Malloy and Mrs. Marjorie Fisher. The children colored Easter eggs and frosted cookies and cupcakes. A small birthday party was held recently at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Jolliffe for Chipper Jolliffe. Guests attending were the Lee Jol liffe family, the Charles Fer guson family, and the W. D. Jolliffes. Chipper is the son of the Lee Jolliffes and the grandson of the Fergusons and W. D. Jolliffes. The Cub Scouts theme for the month is Canada, Land of the Mounties, and the boys are making totem poles, In dian drums, maps, fur neck tie slides and other items re lating to the theme. The Cub Scouts have 12 achievements to complete be fore becoming wolves and have completed their fifth achievement. The Cubs presented the flag at the Grange meeting, April 2. The Grange is the sponsor ing organization for the group. Cub Scouts in Pack 45 are David Boggen, David and Den nis Bray, Jimmy Burton, Jim my Driskell, Tommy Finch, Michael Grey, Bob Hardgrave, Michael Lindley, Billie Nunes, Milan and Calvin Ott, Jerry Price, Ray Reddell, B. J. Rodgers, Ronnie Stanton, -Rodgers, Ronnie Stanton, Charles Stockton, Floyd and Jesse Smith, George Sutton and Stephen Tygart. Leader is Mrs. Ed Malloy. Russian Rushed To Anchorage Juneau, Alaska - (UPD - A Coast Guard cutter today rushed toward Cold Bay in the Aleutians carrying an in jured and unconscious Rus sian seaman destined for hospitalization at Anchorage. The cutter Storis was scheduled to meet a Coast Guard plane which was to take Evgenij Ivanovich Gneushev, 23, to the 5040th Wing Hospital at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Anchorage. Gneushev , was taken aboard the Storis late Wed nesday afternoon at Akun Bay from the Russian refrig erator ship Pischavaya In dustriya. A Navy doctor aboard the Storis, Lt. D. H. Yarley, said the Russian was suffering from flaccid paralysis cf the right arm and legs. The Russian, who Yarley said badly needs hospitaliza tion, had a temperature of 105 and a pulse of 114 when he was taken aboard the Storis.
