A man w r i t es, saying that 30 years ago, he had his stom- i i iTiA l VnrT acn ana dowei x-raved: now he is wondering if that is doing him harm, and is soine to do his children and his grandchildren harm! That question represents, l think, a very unnecessary worry. I don't know how manv times my stomach and bowel have been x-rayed in the last 45 years. I know my stomach has been x-rayed some 32 times since 1926. And yet, so :ar as I can see, I am a pretty healthy specimen, and mv children and grand children are also healthy spe cimens. Several times recently I. have received letters from DeoDle who didn't want to have their teeth x-rayed any more because of their great fear that something terrible would happen, but I think that is silly. I have my teeth x-rayed perhaps every three years. I have known very well a number of x-ray men who, for oerhaDd 30 years have looked, each afternoon, at the stomachs of 30 or 40 patients with their x-ray screen. Dur ing these examinations, for much of the time, they had one hand in the path of the x-rays, pushing the stomach and bowel around so that they could see them better. None of these friends seem to have come to any grief. and neither have their chil dren come to grief. Obvious ly, these x-ray men have had many many times the dosage Sweetland Cites Leadership Lack Portland JPD Sen. Monroe S w e e 1 1 and . (D.-Milwaukie) said Monday night that "with out leadership from the gov ernor's office, the legislature has floundered to this point in a tizzy of indecision." Sweetland spoke to the Multnomah County Central Labor Council? He brought up the subject of a sales tax and received a shouted "no" when he asked how the council felt about it. He said proponents had been arguing that "labor is soften ing" on the sales tax. The council went on record to "bitterly oppose any form of a sales tax." . . Expert Service! Treatment of Pernicious Anemia ' Quite a few persons ask me if they should keep tak ing shots two or three times a week for pernicious anemia. Recently I read in the Jour nal of the American Medical Association that it Has been determined that 30 millionths of a gram of vitamin B12, given once a month, is usually enough to keep a patient with pernicious anemia in good health for several years. This is an amount of the drug so small that one would have to look for it with a powerful microscope!
