Locals Chimney Fir - A flue fire at the home of Clarence Mi lotta, 102 Elm St., occurred about 9:20 p.m. yesterday, firemen reported. Thefl-Mary Ann Hubbard, Prospect, reported to sheriffs deputies Wednesday the theft of three hub caps from her car while it was parked in Shady Cove. Line Breaks-Firemen were called at 7:10 p.m. yesterday when a water line broke at the residence of Mrs. Luella Welch, 713 Cedar st. They shut off the water at the meter. , ' Program Changed-Jackson County Tuberculosis and Health association television program, usually presented at 4:30 pjn. on alternate Thurs days, will not be scheduled to - day. It will be presented at 10 pjn. Monday, -April 6. Window Broken-Paul Kur ovsky, 1048 West 11th st., re ported to city police that someone threw a rock through a window at Zion Lutheran church, Fourth st. and Oak dale ave. Tuesday. Bliss-Mrs. Margaret Riley, 203 Elm st., Medford, left earlier this week for Ft. Bliss, Tex., to be with her" two-year-old grandson, Jim my M. McDonald, who is in critical condition with a heart ailment. The child's parents are Lt. and Mrs. Jim McDonald. Mrs. Riley is on the nursing staff at the Park View Nursing home here. She came to Oregon three years ago. Firemen Stand By - City firemen stood by at the muni cipal airport about 6:20 p.m. yesterday while a Pacific Air lines Corvette made an emer gency landing. The plane re turned to the Medford field when a light signal indicated a fire after take-off. How ever, no fire was found. A fire department crew was sent to - the Kenneth - Howard resi dence, 2455 Stewart ave., about 5 p.m. when a lead in electrical wire was reported down. STEARNS Funeral services for Wil liam Francis Stearns, 94, of 1425 Thomas rd., who died Saturday, will be held at the Perl Funeral home Saturday at 10 a.m. The Rev. Ramond W. Hum will officiate. Inter ment will be in the Rogue River cemetery. Mr. Stearns was born on Aug. 13, 1864, in Freeborn county, Freeborn, Minn. He was married to Floretta Re becca Hollopeter, July 3, 1884- Three of the six children survive. They are Mrs. Nettie Monroe of Chilliwack, British Columbia; Mrs. Luella Cyr of Enchant, Alberta, and Mrs. Ruby Rogers of Medford, and 30 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Mr. Stearns moved from Nebraska to Saskatchewan, Canada, by covered wagon with several other- families where he farmed extensively and came to Oregon in De cember,-1922. CLARENCE F. HEITMAN Clarence F. Heftman, 63, died at the Veterans adminis tration Domiciliary, Camp White, this morning. Funeral arrangements will be an nounced by Perl Funeral home. BEATRICE M. LEE Funeral services for Mrs. Beatrice M. Lee, 56, of 224 Mace rd., who died Monday in . a local hospital, will be held Friday at 2 p.m., in the I Wimer Community church. ! The Rev. , George Holsinger will officiate. Committal will be in Woodville cemetery at Rogue River. Conger-Morris is in tharge of arrangements. Mrs. Lee was born Oct. 26, 1902, at Stroud, Okla., and was married to Dennis M. Lee on Oct. 26, 1924, at Lewis, Colo. She had lived in Med ford for 25 years. Surviving are her husband, Dennis, her mother, Ethel I. Morgan, of Knobnoster, Mo.; one brother, James Morgan of Knobnoster, Mo.; one nephew and two nieces. Her father and one sister precgded her in death. v Pall bearers will be Frank West, Lex Harden, Leo Orvis, Howard Baker, Arden Lyrell and Carlos Magerle. Ex-Valley Resident Dies in Cleveland Miss Helen Schoeni, a graduate of Medford High school, died of a heart attack recently in Cleveland, Ohio. She was head of the depart ment of dramatics at Hatha way Brown school, Cleveland. Miss Schoeni, who was born in Elgin, 111., devoted much of her life to study, acting and direction of little theater groups in many parts of the country. "After she was graduated from MOtiford High, she re ceived a degree from the Uni versity of California and Yale university in theater arts. She worked in theaters along the west coast before moving to the Hathaway Brown school in Cleveland. Gunshot Slaying Brings Probation Portland-iePD-Leonard Lyle Anders-on, 47, was fined $100 and placed on three years pro bation Wednesday for the gunshot slaying of a man who had Knocked on the door of his apartment. Anderson had pleaded guilty to a charge of involun tary manslaughter, which had been reduced from second de gree murder. Victim of the Feb. 9 shoot ing was Joseph Sprier, 43, who police said had been in volved in an altercation with Anderson shortly before the shooting.
