Fair child, 2080 Stage road, south, were honored on their golden wedding aniversary at a din ner at the Morrison Carter home on East Main street. The Fairchilds have three children, Mrs. C. E. Nord, En cino, Calif.; Master Sergeant Wayne M. Fairchild, Lake Charles, La., and Mrs. E. P. Hall, St. Helens, Ore., who at tended the event. The couple have eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The former Miss Madge White and Banner Fairchild were maried in Ida Grove, Iowa, March 3, 1909, and made their home in South Dakota and Idaho prior to moving to Oregon in 1938. Mr. Fairchild is a farmer and Mrs. Fairchild was for merly a school teacher. During the diner held Tues day Mrs. Nord and Sergeant Fairchild "joined" their par ents by telephone. ' To Elect Election of officers will be held at the stated session of Zuleima temple, Daughters of the Nile, Saturday, March 14, at 1:30 p.m. at the Grants Pass Masonic temple. A tea will follow the meet ing, with the Eugene Nile club in charge. Spring's iW wits - ftil ' -A' "5 Shower Given At Ranch Home To Honor Bride Shady Cove-Trail-Mrs. Ran ald Axtell, Folding Hills ranch, Trail, was hostess at her home on Saturday eve ning, February 28 for a bridal shower honoring Mrs. David Bliss, Trail. Co-hostesses for the event were Mrs. Scott Brill, Trail, and Mrs. Ray Briggs, Shady Cove. The table was decorated in the bridal motif. Crystal pieces and white candles stood on a white lace tablecloth. A large white cake decorated with pink roses was made by Mrs. William Shepherd, Shady Cove, for the party. Mrs. Bliss cut the first piece of the cake with an antique silver knife tied with a white satin ribbon. This knife, which belongs to Mrs. Brill, has been loaned by her to many brides over the years in the Trail area to cut their wedding and shower cakes. Several games were played before the gifts were opened. Miss Sandra Sawyers was in charge of the gift list. Guests attending were Mes dames George Moore, Carl Scott, Harold Barber, Oscar Hanson, Wyles Berry, O. Wag ler, A. Myklebye, Rick Eastin, Arnold Ragsdale, Merle Har per, Clarence Wagler, Wil mer Ragsdale, William Brewster, Carl Richardson and James Sawyers; the Miss es Sandra Sawyers and Susan Eastin, Mrs. Frank Dolenshek, mother of the bride, and the honored guest, all of Trail; and Mrs. Jim Hopkins, Shady Cove. Student Named Representative Gladys C h a p i n Johnson, daughter of Mrs. W. F, Chapin of 229 Laurel street, is be gining her second semester as a representative to the Asso ciated Student Legislative council of the University of California at Santa Barbara, a release from the school states. A junior English major, Mrs. Johnson plans graduate studies at UCSB after her graduation and will continue part time work as a columnist in the society 'ection of the Santa Barbara News -"Press. After her graduate work is completed, she plans to work for that paper full time while her husband continues as man ager of a chain grocery outlet in Santa Barbara. Mrs. Johnson was graduated from Medford High school where she was editor of the Hi-Times and vice-president of the Girl's League. At UCSB, she has been student body treasurer, secretary of the Phateres national honorary group, a member of the sail ing club, English Forum and Kappa Omicron Phi home economics honorary. Meeting Planned By Pi Beta Phi Medford Pi Beta Phi Alum nae club will meet Tuesday, March 10, at 8 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Donald Mc Geary, Calhoun road, Phoe nix. Oregon Mother of Year On Television Programs Mrs. Harlan P. Bosworth Jr., returned from Portland Friday night where she ap peared on two programs which were taped and filmed for pre sentation today on Television Channel 8. The programs were arranged by Dr. Karlin Capper-Johnson, president of the Oregon United Nations' asso ciation. Mrs. Bosworth, who was Name Chairmen For Annual Tea Committee chairmen for the annual cancer tea given by the Medford committee, American Cancer society, are being assigned now by the co-chairmen of the 1959 event, Mrs. Fred Spiegelberg and Mrs. N. James Wilson. Ore gon's Centennial will provide the theme this year, with an tique and old objects on dis play. The floral exhibit con test of previous years will be a feature of this year's tea also. The planning of the tea was discussed at the March meet ing of the Medford committee. Much of the meeting was oc cupied by the details neces sary for the door-to-door cru sade which is planned in April. The Medford committee is one of several groups that are helping with this project ed educational campaign, and has been meeting monthly to work out a plan for reaching every home within the city limits. 4 Sorority Marks 50th Anniversary The 50th anniversary of Al pha Xi chapter of Kappa Al pha Theta, national social sor ority, is Deing celebrated on the University of Oregon cam pus in Eugene this week end The celebration coincides with a meeting of District XIV of the sorority. Members of Southern Ore gon Kappa Alpha Theta Al umnae club attending the cel ebration and district meeting are Mrs. Otto Frohnmayer, Medford. and Mrs WilUnm f Plummer, Grants Pass. Mrs. A. H. Miller, Medford, the former Dollie Ankeny, is a charter member of Alpha Xi chapter. Mrs; Miller was grad uated from the University of Oregon in 1903, and the local sorority of which she was a member affiliated with Kappa Alpha Theta in 1909. Mrs. Robert W. Shepherd is president of the Southern Oregon club, and Mrs. Norris Porter is secretary-treasurer. 4 Legion Birthday To Be Observed The American Legion will observe its 40th birthday with a party Wednesday, March 11, at 6:30 p.m. at th Red Cross building in Medford. The party will be given by the Past President's Parley. All members of the Ameri can Legion and auxiliary and their wives and husbands are invited to attend. MAIN last week named 1959 Oregon Mother of the Year, is a mem ber of the OUNA board. The first film, made in the KGW studios, was for the pro gram Community Workshop which will be shown at 10:30 a.m. today. Several members of the OUNA board, including Mrs. Bosworth and Dr. Capper-Johnson, and the consul from Panama stationed in Portland, discussed disarma ment problems and the United Nations police force. On the second film Mrs. Bosworth was interviewed by Dr. Capper - Johnson for his continuing program, ."World Report," and this will be seen and heard on Channel 8 today at 2 p.m. Mrs. Bosworth shares the program time with Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt, who was in Oregon last week for lecture appearances at the University of Oregon. Mrs. Bosworth also spent a hour in conference with R. E. Hatchard, chief engineer of the Oregon Air Pollution authority. While away Mrs. Bosworth spent a night in Salem as a guest of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Wil liam Hughes, and their four .children. Voters' League To HearSpeaker Mrs. Edward Hughes, Port land, will speak for a general meeting of Medford League of Women Voters at the Rogue Valley Country club, Satur day,' March 14. Luncheon will be served at 12:30 p.m. Mrs. Hughes is currently' state legislative chairman, and has been attending the legislative sessions in Salem. Mrs. Hughes is also state chairman of the league's con tinuing responsibility com mittee, and is a past presi dent of the Portland league. Mrs. Hughes will speak about the 1959 legislative sessions in relation to the league's work. This will be an open meet ing. Mrs. Hugh Collins, league president, cordially invites anyone interested in the pro gram to attend. ' High scores in the north south position were won by Mrs. Howard Boyd and Roy Pruitt, first; Mrs. John Dougherty and Paul Hatton, second; Mrs. C. L. Howard and Mrs. Jack Love, third, and Mrs. Hatton and Dr. George G. Dean, fourth. In the east-west position top scorers were Mrs. W. W. Stevenson and Mrs. Frank R. Navy Man Jacksonville - Miss Gean Eiden, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Eiden, Jackson ville, became the bride of Frank Endsley, Hudson, Colo., in a ceremony held February 28 in San Francisco, Calif. Navy Chaplain John Shell by officiated at the double ring rites held at 8:30 o'clock in the evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Don Wells, friends of the couple. The wedding was attended by close friends of the couple. The bride wore a white afternoon length frock styled on princess lines with a short veil and carried a bouquet of lilies-of-the-valley. Attending the couple were Mr. and Mrs. Wells. Following the ceremony the newlywed couple traveled to Lindsay, Calif., on their wed' ding trip. The bride is a graduate of Jacksonville High school and has been employed at Siris Super Market in San Francis co. Mr. Endsley is a first class petty officer in the U. S. Navy and is presently sta tioned at Treasure Island. They plan to make their home in Hudson later this year. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Eiden wore a dark blue crepe dress with black ac cessories. Her corsage was of red and white carnations. Mr. and Mrs. Eiden drove south for the wedding Febru ary 26 returning to the valley March 1. . Organ Recital At Church Today Open to Public Nine organ students of St, Mary's school will be present ed in a recital this afternoon at 3 o'clock at Sacred Heart Catholic church. Students playing in the re cital will be Miss Annette Bur ich, Miss Annie Manno, Miss Marilyn Shepard, Miss Sara Robinson, Miss Antonia Ad ams, and Miss Diane Franklin. Religous and secular compo sitions by Bach, Nevin, Ram eau and other musicians are on the program. Drake-Gaswint Rites Are Held In Bride's Home Mrs. Sally Jane Gaswint, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.S. Martin, 928 South Holly street, became the bride of Norman Lee Drake. Yreka. Calif., in a ceremony held February 21 at the home of the bride's parents. The Rev. William C. Piper of First Christian church officiated at the double ring ceremony at tended by 18 relatives and friends. The bridegroom is a son of Mrs. Julia Drake, Cedar Rap ids, Iowa. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a lav ender silk shantung after noon length frock with black accessories and a gardenia corsage. Mrs. Dale Willis attended her sister. She wore a pink silk shantung dress with car nation corsage. Bernard L. Martin, Yakima, brother of the bride served as best man. Following the four o'clock afternoon rites, a reception was held. Assisting with the serving were Miss Lena Wil kinson and Miss Doris Web ster. The couple traveled to Mt. Shasta, Calif., on their wed ding trip. For traveling the bride wore a dark green suit with, black accessories. They are making their home in Yreka where Mr. Drake is employed by Erickson and James, Inc. The bride attended South ern Oregon college and Rob inson School of Business and was employed by the First National Bank of Oregon, Medford branch. Mr. Drake attended Iowa public schools. 4 Daughter Here From California Mrs. Martin John Kinnaird has arrived in Medford from Long Beach, Calif., to spend a month with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. G- Frink,, 1654 Thomas road. Mrs. Kinnaird's husband, an engineering offi cer in the United States Navy, is assigned to duty aboard the U.S.S. Bryce Canyon and the ship is now en route to the Philippine islands. Mrs. Kinnaird is the former Meta Jean Frink, and her wedding to the Navy officer took place December 6 in Long Beach. Eagle Point, and Ralph Cheek were married in Reno,. Neva da, Saturday, February 21. They were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Lee Pettigrew of Eagle Point. After their return here, a reception was held in their honor at the Eagle Point Community Bible church. Fifty relatives and friends at tended.
