WAINSGOTT'S FHARF-IACY 322 East Main Medford A pat on the back for Steve Hubler OUTSTANDING MAIL TRIBUNE CARRIER for the month of January - 1 . ( . 1 Hard Work Is This Young Man's Key to Success One of the few boys to top the list of Mail Tribune carriers in so short a time is Steve Hubler, who has been delivering the Mail Tribune in S.W. Medford for only 8 months. Fourteen-year-old Steve attends McLoughlin Junior High School and likes mathe matics and science best of all his subjects. He is a better than average student and his extra activities are confined to playing first violin in the school orchestra and filling the position of guard on his church's "Boy's Brigade" basketball team. Steve, like the other Mail Tribune carriers, has very little time for many activities other than his school and route work. Delivering a Mail Tribune route is exacting and takes 2 hours of a boy's time each day, but the money received and the experience gained more than compensates for the time expended. Mail Tribune carriers learn to stand on their own feet which gives them the confidence to pursue their goals to a suc cessful conclusion. In order to keep a route, the Mail Tribune insists that each carrier keep up his school grades and never to allow his route to interfere with them. For this reason, the boys who deliver the Mail Tribune, are better than average students. The Mail Tribune supports a program which gives the carriers benefits which other boys never have the opportunity to receive. Besides the training program that eoch boy must complete, a college scholarship is given each year to the most outstanding carrier and a cash prize is given each month to the most outstanding carrier for that period. Each boy is rated every month, the ratings being based on character, scholastic standing, route work and promptness. There is a healthy rivalry among the carriers for the prizes which, in turn, helps to promote better service to the Tribune's subscribers. Steve, like many of the other carriers, started delivering papers as a substitute and gradually worked into a route of his own. Since he has had his own route he has been able to save $25.00 each month which he will use to help with his college expenses. His goal is to teach school and with the experience he is getting and his association with the other carriers who represent a good cross-section of the residents of Jackson County, his qualifications for his chosen field will be beyond compare.
