N. - I'm sick of tak ing orders from her. Peggy J. - I am having a terrible problem with my aged, widowed father. Moth er died two years ago and .' Dad, now 73, wants to marry . again. I would be all for the idea . if Dad weren't set on a woman who loves to go places and do . things. Dad has gotten a big kick out of going out with her, but she doesn't realize that he comes home from his "dates" completely exhausted. The worst of it is that Dad has told her that he's ten years younger than he really is. I have begged Dad to tell . this woman the truth and I've ' threatened to do it myself if he doesn't. I know it's not nice thing to do, but I feel that it is only right. After all, if this woman up and leaves Dad when she finds out the truth he'll come running to ' me to comfort him and take care of him. He has a nice home and good care with me , now, why should he' upset everything? Mr. F.N. - It's a fine thing . when your own daughter seems to think she's your mother and must tell you - what to do and how to do it. ' Ever since I came to live with Peggy, I've been taking orders, ; and I'm a little sick of it. It happens that I have the appearance, nealtn and en ergy of a person ten years younger. Many doctors have r told me so. This woman, her self, took me for 63 and I didn't feel like disillusioning her. Why should I? It would ..give her the wrong impres sion - that I'm an old man. My ' doctor says there isn't any reason why I shouldn't last until 90 the way I'm going, so why shouldn't I live it up as much, as I can? I've told-Peggy that if she goes telling stones-behind my back, I'm going to getbut of her house right now. I don't think children have a righ to take over the upper hand just because their parents aren't as young as they used to be. My relationship with this woman is a personal matter. The Council: We think Peg gy is right about the fact that ' the woman involved should know the truth, but we are not so sure she should turn in former on her father. She should continue to try to per suade him to do the telling. Her threat is an insult to his dignity. Peggy should recognize that her high-handed general attitude toward her father may have been a strong factor in his getting involved with 'this-woman in the first place. If it is true that she has been giving him orders, he un doubtedly has been chafing at the bit for some time. Her father is far from helpless and must feel intense resentment at being treated like a child. Perhaps he felt the need to go out and prove his real mettle by courting a woman . so much younger. On the other hand, Mr. F.N. owes it to himself and his intended bride to be above- board. It is quite possible that this woman would be willing to accept him what ever his age - but if she is not, the situation could be come very unfortunate. No body likes to be fooled about such vital matters, and Mr. F.N. is fooling himself if he Deiieves wis ten - year age difference is not a vital matter. His doctors have been re assuring, but they do not really expect him to consider himself 63 and to remain 100 per cent unconscious of the fact that old age symptoms could set in suddenly. If Mr. F.N. were a little more courageous about facing the facts, he would stand a better chance of making a happy second marriage. -. (Copyright 1959, General Features Corp.)
