After assign ing the name of a city to each child, everyone sits in a circle, except IT, who stands in the center with a list of the cities. To play, IT calls out two cities (such as San Francisco and Chicago) and adds, "De liver the mail by pony express!" (or plane, train, truck, or helicopter). And the two children given these names jump up and try to change places, while imitating a pony, a train, or whatever. IT, of course, tries to steal one of the vacated places while this is going on. Lee he valentine shown here is made from two paper hearts of different colors. The top heart is cut to make window shutters, which open to show a little girl with extend ed arms. Cut two hearts the same size, one of red- and the other white or a pale color. Draw a line downward part-way through the center of the red one and a line across each end (see Fig. 1). Cut and fold back flaps to make shutters. Under them paste flowers to look like a window box. Or draw flowers. The masts are held upright by a lump of clay pressed into the bottom of the shell. Cut heart-shaped sails from paper and glue them to the birthday candle mast.
