organizer who stirred up a
storm in sunny Hawaii last
year.
The organizer, Mike Singer,
was described as teamsters
President James R. Hoffa's
"best friend" in Los Angeles
But some Honolulu business
men consider him "persona
non grata."
Varied Activities
According to the commit
tee, Los Angeles Local 626
sent Singer to Honolulu to
organize some meat compa
nies. But a committee spokes
man said Singer's tactics in
cluded halting milk deliveries
for two days, picketing the
docks and bringing pressure
on meat suppliers on the
mainland.

scheduled to testify about the
effects of Singer's Honolulu
junket on some firms there.

Winner Refused Post
Singer was named in testi

won an election last month
to unseat John W. Filipoff as
secretary-treasurer. But Fili
poff, he said, refused to rec
ognize defeat.
Cohen said he finally yield
. ed to pressure from Hoffa's
lieutenants and agreed to re
sign the post at a meeting
here. But when he returned
home he had a change of heart
and still is trying to make his
election victory stick.
Costa Rica boasts more
teachers than soldiers. The
Costa Rica army was abolish
ed in 1948 to be replaced
by a national police force.

Senate aviation subcommittee
denied today that there were
any frills in the bill. He said
the legislation was needed to
make air travel safer.
