House Bill Repeals Act for Trustees Of McLoughlin House Salem -UPD- A bill was in troduced in the Oregon House Thursday to repeal a long forgotten 1911 act under which the governor is in structed to appoint three trustees for the home of Dr. John McLoughlin in Oregon City. Rep. Juanita Orr (D-Lake Grove) said: "This act has not been fol lowed for more than 25 years and during that time Mc Loughlin House has been re stored and care for by the dedicated efforts of private citizens on grounds furnished by the city of Oregon City." Stream of Calls Members of the Clackamas county delegation said they had been receiving a constant stream of calls and letters since Gov. Mark Hatfield recommended in his inaugur al address that the McLough lin home board of trustees be abolished and its duties transferred to the Oregon Historical Society. Rep. Orr said that her con stituents cannot understand why the recommendation was made and say they were not consulted about the gover nor's decision. The bill would make it possible for the McLoughlin home to continue to be sup ported by private citizens. Contest in Schools The House passed and sent to the Senate a bill providing for a contest in public schools to select and appropriate slogan for use on Oregon license plates. Rep. George Annala (D- Hood River) moved that the word "public" be deleted so that parochial schools would be included, but the motion lost when Rep. Keith Skelton (D-Eugene) objected. The bill provides for a com mittee to judge the slogans. It will be composed of Gov. Mark Hatfield, ex-Gov. Rob ert D. Holmes and Rex Put nam, superintendent of public instruction. It further provides that in case an appropriate slogan is not.- selected, the official slogan shall be "scenic won derland." There were four no votes on the proposition. Report on Union Funds Complete accounting and reporting of union health and welfare funds would be re quired if a bill introduced in the House became law. The measure is sponsored by Republican Rep. Shirley Field and Democratic Rep. Ed Whelan, both of Portland, and Republican Sen.' Walter Leth, West Salem. Miss Field said that . simi lar measures had been before Congress and that the propo sition was included in the Kennedy-Ives bill last session which failed to pass. She said that when she in troduced a similiar bill in the 1957 session, New York and Washington were the only states -with a union health and welfare accounting law. Since then, she said, Con necticut, Massachusetts, . Wis consin and California have enacted similar laws. " To Size 48! Bottle-Holder Set MM CtTCC 9039 11 fiZk Youthful, smart and slim ming!
