Oregon, Monday, January 26, 1939 HORNBROOK Grouo Elects Officers Br KATHERINE CHAPMAN Hornbrook-At an organiza tion meeting Tuesday at the Methodist church here offi cers were elected to fill the offices of the Methodist Youth Fellowship. They are presi dent, Shirley Moffett; vice president, Patsy MacKinnon; secretary. Linda Blankenship; treasurer, Ann Rutledge; and worship chairman, Harvey Shinar. The meeting was conducted by the Rev. W. C. (Bill) Small, pastor of the Hornbrook and Montague churches. Four young people from Montague including the president of the MYF, .Miss Faye Coatney, were present to assist the Hornbrook youngsters in get ting their group activated again. The group voted to hold its meeting every Tuesday eve ning from 7 to 9 p.m. and all high school youngsters In the community are invited to at tend. At the close of the meet ing, refreshments of cookies and punch were served. Mrs. John MacKinnon and Mrs. Harry Chapman are to serve as Youth Counselors for the group. The Rev. W. C. Small at tended a three-day "work shop" meeting of the North ern California conference the Methodist church Chico, Calif., last week. John Gibbon, a lay leader from the Baptist church Yreka. has been holding serv Ices at the Hornbrook Bible church the past few Sundays while their regular pastor Rev. Gordon Titus, has been conducting services at Seiad Valley. Next Monday, Mr. and Mrs. Titus and daughter Lois, leave for Enumclaw Wash., to attend a week-long conference of the Student Missionary council. W h i 1 thev are away. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Vence. The card warty held at the Grange hall last Friday was said to be the "best yet" by manv who attended. There were '11 tables of pinochle, with the first prize going xo Mrs. E, E. (Pete) Fisher of Hornbrook. and second to Mrs. G e o r e e Calkins of Yreka. Chairman of the event was Mrs. Al King, and in charge of refreshments were Mrs. John Griffin and Mrs Bertha Bradley. The next in this winter series of card par ties is scheduled Jan. 31. Miss Shirley Moffett and Mike Barnum are in the group of youngsters from Yreka High school who are taking skiing lessons at Mt. Shasta, Last Saturday they had their first lesson "on the snow" at the Mt. Shasta Ski bowl. About 40 young people from Yreka high are taking the lessons. They are taken to and from Yreka in the school bus. Weed and Dunsmuir High schools also are partici pating in the program. Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Funk of Delta, Calif., visited their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Al King and daugh ter Terry, last week end. Others playing were Mrs. Dwain Hamner, Mrs. Ed Smith, Mrs. John Griffin, Mrs. Lester Nye and Mrs. Fred Mills. Guests Sunday at the home of Mrs. Minnie Blooming camp and son, Charles, were her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Cavin and Janet of Hilts, and Mr. and Mrs. Don Wilcox of Ashland. Mr. and Mrs." O. Z. How ard of Ashland visited his mother, Mrs. Clara Howard last week end. She has been ill with a bad cold for sev eral weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lowe and Mrs. Mollie Cole spent Sunday in Ashland visiting. Mrs. Emma Kinney of Klamath Falls was a visitor here from Saturday to Tues day with her mother, Mrs. Mary Shinar, and her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. P. G. (Doc) Riness, and her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Shinar. Miss Lorraine Milne of Yreka spent last week end here with Miss Jennifer Joy Cummins. Miss Milne's par ents, had gone to Oregon on a business trip. Mrs. Hazel Fisher of Smith River, Calif., was in town Tuesday on business, and also called on several friends. Mrs. Fisher lived here a num ber of years ago, and operated a beauty shop. Among those attending the program of the San Francisco Opera Quartet presented by the Community Concert or ganization in Yreka Tuesday night were Mr. and Mrs. Nor man Martin, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Green and granddaugh ters, Linda and Lydia, Mrs. Henley Clawson, and Mrs. Grace Quigley and grand children, Danny Metzen. and Mary .East prevented them from starting back. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bear attended the annual party and election of officers of the Grange Credit union Monday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Cawley in Yreka. Bear is a member of the board of the Credit union. Mr. and Mrs. James (Bud) Marlow returned Tuesday evening from a six week's trip by car to Maryland. In Balti more they visited their young est son and other relatives, and in Pasadena, Md., they were guests of a son and daughter. They had planned to return to Calfornia earlier, but the bad weather in the "The Every-Other-Wednes-day Morning Coffee Club" met Wednesday at the home of Mrs. E. E. Fisher. Mem bers attending were Mrs. Jack Cross, Mrs. Andy Skea han, Mrs. Harley Baker, Mrs. Floyd Hogan, Mrs. Robert Farmer, Mrs. "Ike" Dooley, and Mrs. Ralph Chadwick, who will be hostess for the group at their next meeting, Feb. .
