    Three Booklists
Available Through
County Library
Three booklistJ prepared
by the Jackson County li
brary staff are now available
for distribution through coun
ty library agencies, extension
groups, the Oregon Centen
nial committee, and other in
terested organizations.
The first of these, prepared
as an aid to citizens working
on Centennial projects, is
entitled "Oregon Heritage."
In sections devoted to gener
al history, the Indians, the
Oregon Trail, pioneer days in
old Oregon, Oregon biogra
phy and first-hand reminis
cence, and to Oregon in ro
mance are listed some of the
best of the library's available
books on Oregon, past and
present.
The generous bequest of
the late Ella J. Smith of Gold
Hill makes it possible for the
library to acquire almost ev
ery available publication
concerning this state.
Second List '
A second list, "For Tann
er, Forester, Fruitgrower,"
was published to let Rogue
Valley residents engaged in
agriculture know of the many
books available on subjects
related to their industry.
Under the heading, "Facets
of Farming" are such miscel
laneous items as "The Gov
ernment and the Farmer,"
"Repairing and Constructing
Farm -Buildings," "Farm
Shop Skills in Mechanized
Agriculture," and "Law on
the Farm-." '
A section . on "Field and
Furrow" lists books on soil,
water, fertilizer, and on the
production of field crops,
growing vegetables, and
range and pasture. The larg
est part of the booklist is de
voted to books on feeding
and breeding anything from
earthworms to dairy cattle.
Fruit Production
Readers engaged in fruit
production will find a page of
titles of interest to them, as
will those -working in fores
try. The final page of the
booklist lists 10 readable and
humorous books on adven
tures in farm and country
living.
The third booklist being is
sued this week is one of
"Helps in Home Making." It
is divided into groups of
books on home management,
planning the house, landscap;
ing the home grounds, inter
ior decoration, feeding the
family, sewing for the home
and the family, and , do-it-yourself
h i n t s for the
handy." :
These continue a series of
booklists planned on various
subject specialties. The first
to be issued was "Memo to a
Businessman; tested business
ideas - free." Others will be
announced as they are completed.
Small Boat Owners
To Get Hew Charts
New York-Science Service)
-New charts for the nation's
7,000,000 small boat owners
may soon be rolling off the
Government presses.
Visitors to the National Mo
tor Boat Show here will get
their first look at the experi
mental charts-said to be the
"greatest change in nautical
charts since the introduction
of color in 1862."
The boating public is being
asked to make suggestions on
the type of charts and their
format. Rear Admiral H. Arn
old Karo, director of the
Coast and Geodetic Survey,
announced. Although the re
search and development pro
gram was begun only in July,
1959, the Survey rushed com
pletion of the four series of
charts so they could be evalu
ated at the Boat Show and
at the United States Power
Squadron's annual exhibit
here.
Four series, each covering
the same area and containing
approximately the same in
formation, have been publish
ed which contain supplemen
tal descriptive information
needed by small-boat owners
previously found only - in
Coast Pilot volumes.
4-H Club Hews
Valley Experimenters
The Valley Experimenters
4-H Rabbit club held its sec
ond meeting of the year Sun
day, Jan. 18, at 243 South
Stage rd. We talked about
feed and rabbit judging. That
is judging of both the feed
used and the rabbits produc
ed. The president's proposal
"that any member ruled out
of order would have to sing
a song" was defeated. It was
decided that no dues or fines
would be collected in our
club.
The next meeting will be
Feb. 15, and will be devoted
to hutch construction and
culling of a litter to decide
which ones should be kept as
breeders.
