Tax Choice for Processors Asked Salem- (UPD -Amendment of a law which would require food processors in Oregon to choose between having their . personal taxes prorated . through the year on a monthly basis or using the processor i exemptions now in effect is being drafted. This was the result of a de . cision reached Wednesday aft ernoon by the Senate Tax Committee when it became known that a number of pro cessors in the state were using both methods and thereby, in some cases, entirely escaping paying taxes on some inven tories. At the suggestion of Sen. Donald Husband (R-Eugene), House bill 55, already intro duced, will be amended so that the various categories of processors will be named in the law. This is being done in order that county assessors will know which products are en- . titled to consideration and make the application of the law uniform throughout the state. Wash.-OIPD-Ludwig Lobe, a certified public ac countant who handled Dave Beck's tax accounts from 1950-54, testified here Wed - nesday he was told to mind "his own business when he ask "ed Beck about his assets and liabilities. Lobe said he was told that ' such information was really none of his business and that it was for somebody else to worry about. Beck, former president of the Teamsters Union, is being tried on charges of evading $240,000 in income taxes from 1950 through 1953. The trial resumed today. ' The accountant said he once suggested that Beck have an audit of his financial affairs. Beck did not tell him about ex pense reimbursements he re ceived from various unions from. 1950-1953 either, Lobe said. Delay Asked in Jobless Problems Salem -flJPfl- Sen. Dan Dim ick (D-Roseburg) today asked the Senate to reserve judg ment on Oregon's unemploy ment compensation problems until his Labor and Industries Committee had a chance to give the matter a thorough study. His ' statement followed a hearing at which a new meth od for financing the compen sation fund was presented by George Brown, legislative di rector of the AFL-CIO. The plan provides that all employers start by paying a 2.7 per cent rate to the unem ployment fund. Then, as the fund grows, employers will have a chance to gain an experience rating which will result in lower ing of their payments. All employers are paying the 2.7 per cent rate now, due to depletion of the fund. Former Medford Man Named to New Post James D.
