The much-publicized ballis tic missile, being developed for launching from submar ines, hit the ocean off Cape Canaveral, Fla., about 740 miles short of its target, the reports said. U n d er questioning, the Navy now concedes that the test missile "did not reach its intended range." It has down graded its description of the test to "partially successful." The stretch-running sensa tion of the 1958 winter and spring season has developed a splint in his right front leg after having a similar ail ment on his left front leg treated earlier. The colt was laid up last summer but made a comeback at Tanforan last month when he won a sprint race and again displayed his well-known ability to come from behind.
