Frank Van Dyke
To Be Speaker
Frank J. Van Dyke will be
guest speaker for the Jackson
County Republican Women's
club, on Monday, January 19.
He will present his interpreta
tion of the inaugural address
of Governor Mark Hatfield.
Mr. Van Dyke is a former
speaker of the Oregon House
of Representatives from Jack
son county. He is immediate
past president and currently
a member of the Western In
terstate Commission on High
er Education.

held at Ping's Garden at 12
noon, and reservations may

and is a senior at Humboldt

are now in Lebanon, Ore. The
bride is the former Betty Lou
Stevens, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Earl T. Stevens, Jack
sonville, and the bridegroom
is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle
Hard, Applegate Valley.
The bride's brother - in
law and sister, Mr. and Mrs.

double-ring ceremony.

groom are graduates of Jack

bride was formerly employed

a three-year enlistment in the

of Edward Charles Brophy,
Grants Pass, in a ceremony
held January 11 at the New
Age church, Eagle Point. Mr.
Brophy is a son of Mr. and
Mrs. Arthur Brophy, Vander
hoof. The Rev. D. E. Millard offi
ciated . at the three o'clock
afternoon ceremony attended
by relatives and close friends.
Mrs. Millard played the organ
wedding music.
The bride wore a cocoa
brown suit with white acces
sories and a corsage of gar
denias and lily-of-the-valley.
Mrs. George Bauers attended
her sister. She wore a tan
and brown silk coat dress.
James E. West, brother-in-law
of the bride, served as
best man.
Following the wedding the
newlyweds traveled to Van
derhoof where they will make
their home.
The bride is a native of
Jackson county and attended
Eagle Point schools. She is
employed by the British Co
lumbia Telephone company
in Vanderhoof. Mr. Brophy is
a graduate of Custer, S. D.,
High school and is employed
by the department of high
ways in Vanderhoof.

the junior and senior soci
eties were recognized at an
honors convocation early this
month at which Dr. Max Sa
velle, professor of history at
the University of Washington,
spoke on "Intellectual Leader
ship in the Mass Society."
Adignos exists to honor and
promote scholarship on the
campus. Standards for mem
ber selection include intellec
tual curiosity as well as su
perior achievement. Candi
dates must have recommenda
tions from three faculty mem
bers and be approved by a
faculty committee. .
Both coeds were elected to
the society for their work
during their freshman year.
