REJECTS Secy, of State Dulles, at a news conference In Washington, has branded Russian proposals for a Ger man peace treaty as brutal and stupid. He said they would risk new war in Europe. Pony Express Plans Talked at Meeting Ashland-Plans for the Sage Riders participation in the Pony Express in June were discussed at a meeting of the Ashland Centennial commit tee this week. Mrs. Velma Jacoby, presi dent of the Sage Riders, out lined the club's program, which Includes carrying mail from Siskiyou summit stock ade to Phoenix, where the Medford Trail Riders will carry it to the Jackson-Josephine county line. Regular daily runs will be continued between June 7 and 14, and during the "hun dred days" of the Centennial celebration in Portland. A trial run is scheduled within a few weeks to check the tim ing. Mrs. Jacoby said philate lists already are ordering "first covers" and are avail able for $1 in addition to the regular 4-cent stamp neces sary to mail letters. The Sage Riders are part of the state organization oi horseback riders in 84 differ ent clubs with a membership of more than 4,000. About 60 per cent of all the automobiles sold in .the U-S. are on time payments or in stallment purchase plans. 4-H Club News Tot Tenders A new 4-H group was or ganized Jan. 12 at the home of Mrs. John Hochstatter, the 4-H leader. The officers were elected as follows: president, Mary Kay Hochstatter; vice president, Martha Merriman; secretary, Linda Danials; re porter, Judy Dunlevy; song leader, Millicent O'Connor; and game leader, Mary Lou Elbert. Other members are Anette Burich, Faye Lewis, Carlon Anderson, Mary Ann Carne gie, and Shara Robinson. An nette Burich and Faye Lewis were appointed to explain the 4-H pledge. Toothpicks and Sweet Dishes The Toothpicks and Sweet jjisnes -n ciua meeting jan. 13 was held at the home of our leader, Mrs. C. A. Hendry. It was called to order by our president, . Fredena Wilkens. The minutes of the previous meeting were read by the sec retary, after which the roll was called with all members present. Each member brought a sample of a recipe she had . made from her 4-H book, which we sampled and dis cussed. The rest of the time was spent on sewing work shop. Our next meeting will be on Jan. 27. June Hendry, Reporter. Table Rock Packrals The meeting was held Jan. 12, at 4 p.m.' at Pat Striplan's home. The meeting was called to order by the president, Glenna Brown. When roll was called we answered with the picture we were to bring. We told what room it was and why we chose it. We had the rest of the meeting and then it was adjourned. Anita Pierce gave a report on "Colors in Nature." Pat Striplan served refresh ments. Mrs. Ruth Brown, one of the leaders, w,as absent. The next meeting will be Jan. 26 at the home of Judy Lewis.
