10 MAIL TRIBUNE, Medford, Oregon, Tuesday, January 13, 1959 Family oi Seven Perish in Flames rinrinnati. Ohio - UPD - Mr and Mrs. Horace Bradshaw and their five children never had a chance when an explod ing oil stove engulfed their frame and stucco home in flames early Sunday, fire men said. The bodies of the parents were found near a door lead ing outside. The children's bodies were in two bedrooms, two lying on the floor, the rest in bed. All of which does not mean that women in future will all have their babies sitting up; it sim ply means that some obstetri cians will probably give the old method a trial. The reason is that re search workers, when they discover the cause or the cure for a disease of animals are likely to learn much which can promptly lead to a cure for some disease of man. And the same sort of thing happens in the reverse direction. The development of a vaccine for polio for children is likely immediately to help research workers in a veterinary insti tute to find a cure for some disease of animals; as a result, farmers will be saved millions of dollars a year. Sometimes, also, it is found that a disease of farm animals or fowls can produce a severe illness in an occasional man or woman. A good example is the psitta cosis, or parrot fever, which has spread from parrakeets to turkeys and other birds, and sometimes to man to pro duce a dangerous pneumonia. The Senate first rejected 67-28 a bipartisan liberal pro posal by Sen. Paul H. Doug las (D-Ill.) and others to let a majority of 50 of the 98 sena tors limit debate. A two-thirds majority of 66 is needed now. It then defeated a compro mise by Sens. Thurston B. Morton (R.-Ky.), Clinton P. Three crew members sur vived. All were reported out of danger today. The only American aboard, pilot Capt. Wren McMains of Westover Park, Stamford, Conn., died at the controls after he missed the runway at Galeao Inter national Airport in a blind ing rain storm. The plane touched down in Rio Bay instead, bounced onto Tubiacanga Beach on Gov- ernador Island, where the airport is located. It explod ed and split apart in flames. Heavy mud delayed the rescue until it was too late. Most of the victims were burned to death. Firemen who carried port able extinguishers several hundred yards through deep mud to the plane were forced to delay their operations until the flames died down. They sought refuge from the rain beneath the unburn ed tail section. One shouted to officials: "No one's alive in there. It's hot enough to start a chain reaction." Officials said most of the victims were, burned beyond recognition. Attempts at identification began in the Rio morgue today.
