George Johns, chairman of a outstanding young man com mittee, said the group has can vassed churches, businesses, clubs and other organizations to determine which young man between 21 and 35 has contributed the most to the community during the year. The local winner will be entered in the Oregon Jayvee contest, which chooses the outstanding young men of the state. Don A. Faber, chairman of the committee selecting the outstanding young farmer of the Central Point area, said the local winner will be eligi ble .to compete in the state finals of the Nationwide con test sponsored by the Jaycees in cooperation with the Am erican Petroleum Institute, committee on agriculture. The national finals include a trip to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and consideration as one of America's four outstanding young farmers of 1958. Mendes, 24, was fined S35 after she plead ed guilty to driving recklessly and without a license, but she explained she couldn't pay the money because she was on re lief. So Superior Court Judge Eugene L. Jalbert decided to continue the case indefinitely, pointing out to Mrs. Mendes: "If I fine you, we'll have to get money from the state to pay the state."
