mm DO DOCTORS DO to relieve proposed to whom. "I don't remember. I think we proposed to each other at the same time." Then he added, "Does it matter?" He seemed not at all concerned that Brigitte is known as "The Sex Kitten," or about the other provocative publicity that would make most prospective husbands feel ill at ease. "I know she's different from what people think of her. She is a simple, charming, very sincere girl who wants to be a good wife. I know. She told me so." She also told him she wants to quit work N after three more pictures to have a baby, and give up her work entirely in about three years. "Certainly she couldn't before," he insisted. "She has contracts that call for every minute of her time till then." Brigitte wants a church wedding. Since she was married to writer-director Roger Vadim in a civil ceremony they were divorced in December, 1957 she is confident that she'll encounter no difficulties from her church. Her 25-year-old fiance has never been marriedj And while on the subject of religion, Brigitte admitted, "I don't go to serveeces as often as I should, but I theenk I go as often as most people. And I go be cause I want to." She also insists on sneaking in and out of church without being noticed. Both brigitte and Sascha expect their marriage to be hectic, if for no other reason, as Sascha puts it, "than that we are both terribly jealous." When he was asked to come to New York last Fall to appear on the Ed Sullivan Show, Brigitte became so jealous that he almost cancelled his trip. Unlike some of Brigitte's other acquaint ances who don't give her much credit for intelligence, Sascha insists she has both wit and humor. "When we" were in Venice for the film festival," he said to illustrate his point, "Brigitte and I were invited to a press conference. We expected to be questioned about ourselves. Instead, a reporter wanted to know what she thought of De Gaulle. Do you know what she said? 'I think he's taller than me in every respect'" Right now Brigitte's greatest ambition is to make a film with an American actor, and curiously enough it isn't Frank Sinatra, who was supposed to play opposite her in "Paris by Night." While claiming she thinks the world of Sinatra as an actor, she has post poned her film with him three times already, and most movie people on both sides of the Atlantic are doubtful it'll ever come off. It's "Rook Hodson" she really wants to work. with. As Brigitte put it, "He ees so beeg, so beauteeful, eef only all Americains would be like heem." She's also fond of Gary Cooper, Clark Gable, and half a dozen other old-timers, but emphatically rejected the idea of meeting America's No. 1 Rock 'n' Roll idol, Elvis Presley, who expressed an ardent desire to see her the moment he received his overseas order. "He ees not refined," she said. With Elvis stationed in Germany as an Army truck driver and Brigitte busy in films for years to come, she won't have to worry about it for some time. As for retiring from the screen, I can't help thinking of Raoul Levy's parting remark: "No one but Brigitte takes that seriously, and I'm not so sure about her, either." Before the neighbors?" "Well, exercise was only one aspect. There's nostalgia, too. Remember shoveling snow? The quiet? The unbroken purity?" "Yes, who doesn't recall that fondly? But a man of your obvious position shoveling? And manually?" "You think there'd be talk? You think a power machine would be more . . . ah . . . mature, successful?" "Indeed, I do! A large machine, sir. Now there's something the neighbors can appre ciate. Plenty of horsepower, bright colors." "But what about the noise?" "It makes a beautiful noise, especially on a quiet Winter's morn. Much like a sports car. Your neighbors will know you own a new power shovel!" "But the exercise?" "None whatsoever. Just press the Magic Sno-Away button and off it goes." "Well, I suppose you're right. Snow shovels are outdated. Yes, I'll take one." "Right you are! Now, sir, if you will step over this way, I'll show you some exercise machines power, of course." Cordon E. Thatcher Family Weekly.
