Korea Orphans Due Americans Celebrate Christmas At Bases Throughout the World

Portland -UPD- Some 100
Korean orphans will be flown I
from Seoul, Korea, to Port
land, Ore., Saturday.
The flight, sponsored by the
Holt Adoption Program of
Creswell, Ore., will begin at
5 p.m. Friday, with planes
stopping off at Wake Island
and Honolulu en route to
Portland. The arrival time is
11 a.m. Saturday morning.
Prospective parents who
have offered to adopt these
children will greet them on
arrival at Portland, accord
ing to Flying Tiger spokes
men, who said the children
range in age from one to six
years.
The youngsters will be ac
companied by six nurses,
with medical care provided at
each stop.

servicemen in German homes.
It was "Orphan Day"
throughout the world and
thousands of homesick Amer
icans especially in Korea
but in other countries around
the globe - gave Christmas
parties at U. S. bases decorat
ed with Christmas trees like
the ones at home. .

officers today sought two
trench-c o a t-wearing bandits
armed with a sawed-off shot
gun, one of whom was named
"Beanie," who robbed a Se
curity First National Bank
branch here of $16,000, kid
naping the manager in his
own car.
San Dimas sheriff's officers
said the bandits were trailed
by a passer-by as they drove
off Wednesday. Bank Mana
ger Paul V. Phillips told offi
cers one of his kidnapers
smashed a window in the car
to take a shot at their pur
suer, Larry Asmus, 25.
Officers said the bandits
entered the bank early
Wednesday morning, tied
four employees and one ban
dit, who called his : partner
"Beanie," warned him not to
harm any women employees.
After telling one customer
the bank was closed, the pair
waited for the time lock to
open the vault, then went in
to gather the money in vari
ous denominations and next
cleaned out the tellers' cages.
They then took Phillips
with them as hostage, later
abandoning him taped and
blindfolded in his car. They
made their escape in a salmon-colored
late model sedan.
