Lad was selected on basis of outstanding work at home, school, church and in local club. CENTRAL POINT HEU Meeting By DORIS HUGHES Central Point - The Willow Springs Home Extension unit met Dec. 9 at the home of Mrs. . Roy Colpitts on North Pacific highway. A potluck luncheon was served at noon. Mrs. Aura Gay gave a demon stration on Christmas decora tions in the home. Entertain ment was in the form of a Christmas gift exchange. The next meeting will be Jan. 2i at the home of Mrs. Homer Jefferies on Scenic ave The Royal Neighbors of America met Dec. 1 at the home of Mrs. Emma Collins, Co-hostesses were Mrs. Oscar Gaston and Mrs. August Su- kow. A gift exchange was held with Mrs. D. R. Hend rickson acting as chairman of the affair. There were five visitors and Mrs. Elsa Walker, district di rector from Medf ord was pres ent for the meeting. Election of officers will be held at the next meeting which will be on an. 6 at the home of Mrs. R. E. Nealon on Table Rock rd. The West Side Home Ex tension unit Christmas party was held Dec. 4 at the Central Point Grange hall. During the business meeting, plans were made and committees were named concerning the lunch eon to be served in honor of John Deere day. A pot-luck luncheon was served at noon. Miss Claire Hanley who was the guest speaker, talked on Early History of Jackson County. A Christmas gift ex change was held by the group. A turkey dinner and Christ mas party were held by the members of the Central Point Home Extension unit on Dec. 17 at the home of Mrs. Arthur Straus, 643 Pine st. Mrs. Charles Jantzer was lunch chairman. A gift exchange was held by the group. Demonstrations on Christ mas candle making were- giv en by Mrs. J. H. Korner and Mrs. Ray Underbakker and Christmas decoration demon strations were given by Mrs. Chuck Taylor and Mrs. Char les Klutsenbeker. ,. The next meeting will be held an. 21 at the home of Mrs. Donald Lacy, Scenic ava Two 4-H groups, The Rock Busters and The Crater Rock ets met with friends and fam ilies at the Crater Rock mu seum the evening of Dec 8 D "e 1 m a r Smith, proprietor, spoke to the group about the rocks and minerals to be found in this area. There were 13 junior horsemen at the meeting. Karen Renfrow and Sue Higinbotham won the prize for naming, the group The Trail Blazers. Miss Karen Holley was co-hostess. Mr. and Mrs. John Bohnert returned Dec. 7 from Hawaii. The Bohnerts had gone to Ha waii on a chartered flight with a tour group sponsored by the Oregon Grange Bulletin. The Bohnerts remained, however, to visit Lt. and Mrs. James F. Rice and daughter, Lynn. Mrs. Rice is their daughter. Lt. Rice is attached to the Marine Corps unit at the Pearl Harbor naval sta tion. The Lawrence Kottke home, at 261 North 4th St., has been the scene of many family get togethers recenty. Guests have been Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Kottke and children Robert, David, Curtis and Jody Lee of Salem, S-Sgt. and Mrs. W. D. Howell and sons, Rusty, Lad die, Willie and Clifford of North Highlands, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Martin Stockdale and children Martin and Nora, Mrs. Marie Greenslit and Eugene Kottke of Central Point and Mr. and Mrs. Den nis Kottke of San Jose. . The wedding ceremony for Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Kottke (Miss Alice Cane) took place on the evening of Thanksgiv ing day. The Kottke family festivities were attended by family members ranging in age from three-week-old Jody Lee to 90-year-old Mrs. Maria Greenslit, who is the baby's great, great grandmother. A surprise birthday dinner honoring Mrs. Edward Walter was " given recently at the home of Mrs. Merle Riven- burg. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Edward Walter, Janet, Billy and Cindy Walter and Mr. and Mrs. Rivenburg and sons, Gordon and Neil. Charles A. Meyer, Central Point Elementary and Junior High school principal, re minded parents of the early dismissal of school which will take place Tuesday. Students will hold their "White Christ mas" Tuesday morning. As a special treat, the full length feature "So Dear To My Heart" will be shown for the students. After the Christ mas vacation, school will re sume Jan. 5. Mr Meyer asked again for the cooperation of the parents in putting a stop to inter mediate students taking matches to school. Mrs. R. B. Langston of 419 North 4th street was hostess Tuesday for a party honoring her Sunday school class of sixth grade girls and their mothers. The girls had a candle light ing service and sang Christ mas carols. Members of the class presented a Bible to their teacher and they had a gift exchange. There were 23 guests at the party. To qualify for a seat in Mic mac Indian tribal councils, youths had to slay either a moose or a bear. Jolly Kris Kringle, current ly taking his Christmas orders from trusting youngsters across the land, is willing to travel by rocket ship or cable car if it will help get him to his department store rendez vous on time, a United Press International survey reveals. Santa's pre-christmas meet ing places are about as varied as his means of locomotion. You can find him in Fairy lands, Outer Space Castles, gingerbread houses, Cozy Cloud Cottages, or office building lobbies. In Houston, Tex., window displays at Foley's depart ment store are geared to space-minded kiddies. Santa is in a space castle, surround ed by tiny space people scoot ing around in the clouds. The interior of the store is decor ated with traditional lanterns and snow-covered pines. Special House A special pink gingerbread and - peppermint stick house has been erected in down town Memphis by a soft-drink manufacturer to house Santa. And each little . boy or girl who visits him is greeted by name. - This is done by means of an unobtrustive helper and a telephone. While the children wait in. line, Santa's helper talks to the parents. Then he sidles to " the telephone and relays to Santa the lowdown on each child. By the time the child reaches Santa's throne, Santa is prepared to greet him by name and also toss in an extra flourish, such as, "I hear you won't eat your eggs at breakfast."A loudspeaker 4-H Club News West Side Hayburners Members of the Westside Hayburners 4-H horse club discussed having reports and learning all the parts of a horse during their recent monthly meeting at the home of Craig Wright. Everyone is to give at least one special report during the year. Linda Smith gave her special report on Appaloosa horses. Sharon Forde was elected new club vice-president since the former officer had decided not to have a horse as a 4-H project and dropped out of the club. During Christmas vacation members will meet at the home of Hether Rhodey and ride over Sterling creek and through Jacksonville Dec. 30 Two new members who at tended their first meeting were Martha Humphrey and Heather Rhodey. Linda Gibson, Reporter MYH 4-H Club Saturday, Dec. 13, the MYH 4-H club met at the home of Mrs. H. B. Mitchel, the club's leader. The meetings was the second of the 4-H year. All members were present. The club was honored to have Miss Mary Lee Garner, the county extension leader, present at the meeting. Miss Garner gave the im portant dates in the following 4-H year, such as 4-H sum mer school, and the diffefcnt prefairs held in the county, The secretary, Georgia I Mitchel, put the dates in the club's year schedule to be later turned into the county office. Refreshments were served by Susan - Hall and songs were lead- by Ilene Mitchel. The next meeting will be held Jan. 3. Each of the mem bers are to bring a prepared food for a club dinner. There, Santa's throne looks over a specially - constructed iceTink on which pretty girls put on skating exhibitions. Installed in Lobby One office building in New York has installed Santa and his helper (female) in the lobby, where school ; children and pre-schoolers mingle with the building's business traffic and emerge with balloons and happy smiles. To help prepare for Santa's Christmas Eve reindeer sled junket, some impressive out door Yuletide displays have been erected in America's cit ies and towns. . .. The Chicago Museum o f Science and Industry, for its 17th annual Christmas Around the World" festival, has decorated a forest of huge Christmas trees in its central court. Each tree is trimmed according to the customs of 21 different nations. Bon-bons are attached to the French tree; straw on the Lithuanian tree; egg-shell figures on the Polish tree, etc. In San Francisco's Union Square, there is a display of 36. aluminum candles ranging up to 22 -feet in height and each topped with electric light "flames." Choral groups take turns .singing carols in 80 -minute outdoor programs at the square. . Also in San Francisco; a small-scale illuminated shep herd scene is created at Gold en Gate Park's Lindley Mead ow from nightfall until mid night through the holiday season. Three ; men, clad in shepherd robes and carrying crooks; stand among some 35 sheep. ... Largest Card Chicago's huge Merchandise Mart is adorned by the larg est Christmas card in the world, created from 16,000 light bulbs covering a 577-by-353 foot facade. The "card" includes a 250 -foot musical staff, 15-foot high notes from "Silent Night," six 60 -foot candles and "Merry Christ mas'? spelled out in 18-foot high letters. The First Baptist Church of Burlingame, Calif., each year presents one of most impres sive outdoor Christmas pag eants in the West. Church members, attired in Biblical costumes, reenact the Christ mas story against a picture backdrop 16 feet high and 250 feet long, set up in a parking lot. The cast includes ay camel, donkeys and sheep. - Rich's department store in Atlanta, Ga., sponsors an out door Christmas show that at tracts thousands of persons. A 60-foot Christmas tree is rais ed and installed on the roof of the store's four - story "Crystal Bridge," which con nects the two main buildings. Choirs sing on each of the glass-enclosed bridge tiers and the entire setting is illumi nated by floodlights.
