Police Seek New
Leads in Search
For Lost Family
Portland -4t?B- Police today
ought new leads as the third
week of search began for a
missing Portland family of
five.
Mr. and Mrs. Ken Martin
nd their three daughters aged
11 to 14, vanished Dec. 7 after
going for a drive in their sta
tion wagon to get a Christmas
tree.
Police were told today that
a special officer in Boise, Ida.,
said he saw a station wagon
in a gravel pit two miles east
of Boise on Highway 30 a
week ago today and that he
believed it might have been
the Martin vehicle. Oregon
state police were told the of
ficer had taken the Oregon
license number on the car but
had lost it. He reported the
incident Sunday after reading
a story about the family still
being missing. It appeared
from the report the car since
had been driven away.
Searchers have followed up
clue after clue and have comb
ed mountains, hills and back
roads in the futile hunt for
the family. During the week
end the lake behind the dam
on the Clackamas river was
searched. Another clue fizzled
out Sunday when a broken
guard rail, 12 miles east of
Estacada was checked. Offic
ers found no car had broken
through.
