Medford, Oregon, Sunday, Decamb.r 14, 19S8 Ragsdale Presides At Banquet During Recent Convention Lee Ragsdale. supervisor of health, physical education and safety for Medford public chools, presided at a conven tion banquet of the Oregon Association for Health, Physi cal Education and Recreation recently in Bend. Ragsdale was president of the associa tion last year. Elsa Schneider, specialist in health, physical education and recreation with the U.S. office of education, was prin cipal speaker at the banquet. Miss Schneider, who re cently returned from observ ing school programs in Eu rope and Russia, compared the American educational sys tem with ones she observed abroad. Should Examine System "People who are advocat ing that we copy the educa tional system in Russia should examine such a system first hand," she said. Miss Schnei der said that many successful professional people in this country would have been channeled into a trade school when 10 years old under the Russian system. Awards for distinguished programs in health and physi cal education were presented to the Bethel school district. Medford received the health award in 1957-58, Ragsdale noted. Dr. H. Harrison Clarke, of the University of Oregon, re ported to the research section of recent findings of the Med ford growth study. In addition to Ragsdale, others from Medford at the convention were Pat Mounts, Janice Crisp and Loren Soder lund. Ashland people attend- In?
