My parents were both killed in an accident sev eral years ago and my only brother lives quite far from me. I have, therefore, been anxious to be close to my late husband's family. My sister-in-law has two daughters a little older than mine. I would like the girls to be friends, and I want my daughter to feel some contact with her father's family. His death was such a terrible blow to her. In spite of my best efforts, my sister-in-law has been very unfriendly. She rarely invites me to her home and always ducks out of invitations to my home. We were never on very good terms, but I make an effort to be nice for my child's sake. I feel that my sister-in-law should be inter ested in making the same effort out of respect for her dead brother. Margaret E. - I loved my brother very much and it is for that very reason' that I can't bring myself to be friendly with Jean. Jean does not mention that her marriage with my brother was bitterly unhappy and probably would have ended in the divorce court if my brother had lived a few years longer. As it was, she drove him to the grave with her ex cessive demands on him. He developed ulcers and a heart condition in the years he was married to her. Jean is a very ' grasping woman. She was always en vious of the fact that my husband was able to provide me with more material things than she could have. I feel that she wants to be in touch with us now for what ever she can get out of it. If we were poor she wouldn't want to know us. I am quite fond of my little niece, but I'm sure she'll torn out a lot like her mother. The Council: Margaret makes dreadful and ill-founded accusations. . The marriage between Jean and her brother may not have been happy, but Margaret cannot possibly judge how much of this was caused by her brother. Certainly it is not in her ability to judge exactly what caused his physical ail ments and the accusation that Jean "drove him to the grave" is as cruel as it is unprovable. Margaret further shows her tendency to make vicious, illogical statements when she accuses a 6-year-old child of taking on her mother's un desirable characteristics. We cannot judge Jean's underlying motives in pursu ing a friendship with her sister-in-law, but the reasons she offers are very sound. The reasons Margaret offers against is are completely un sound. , . It is very doubtful whether good relations can be estab lished with a person who gives every sign of irration ality and ill-will. We think Jean would be far better off to put her time and energy in trying to form good, warm friendships with couples of her own age. Many of them will take her and her child to their hearts and Jeaa will not have to fear the hurts her sister - in - law seems deter mined to inflict on her. (Copyright 1958. General Features Corp.) Boy Scouts Den 11. Pack 8 Den 11 of Pack 8, Jackson school, met at the home of the den mother, Tuesday, Dec. 9. We popped corn for our re freshments and practiced the skit, "The First Camp Out," which den 11 presented at the pack meeting Thursday night at Jackson school. Since Scouting ; promotes family participation, den 11 asked the sisters of den mem bers and a few needed extra girls from Mrs. Thompson's room to take part m the skit The girls are Diane Clark, Carolyn Cole, Carolyn Lynch, Tacy Lynch, Suane Cooley, Linda Holme; Shelia Creton and Jacque Hurn. Den 11 welcomed sisters and friends in . joining the Scouting program. After our skit practice, the Cub Scouts played games and gathered new materials for collections. Roseburg TV Permit Set Aside Washington -DPD-The Fed eral Communications commis sion has set aside its grant of a construction permit to Tele service co. for a new TV translator station at Rose burg, Ore., pending reconsid eration. The commission said it was acting on a protest petition filed by South West Oregon Television Broadcasting cor poration which operates TV station KPIC on channel 4 at Roseburg. KPIC said the new translator station would cause it economic injury. The FCC granted the per mit on Oct. 1 to Teleservice to pick up and rebroadcast pro grams of Portland station KOIN-TV. The commission said today that Teleservice would have to amend and re submit its application which was "incorrectly" accepted by the FCC. The commission added it will then consider the Teleservice application on its merits, together with mat ters raised on the KPIC petition. Two-Year-Old Boy Dies in House Fire Kalama, Wash.-(UPD-A house fire Wednesday took the life of Gerald Bosell, 2, who had been staying at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Cline. The boy's mother, Mrs. Kenneth Bosell and another son Andy, 1, were among eight others who escaped un hurt.' Cause of the fire was unknown.
