Among other things, he has been in Russia. Not only has ' he been in Russia. He has been in Moscow. Not only has he been in Moscow. He has been in the Kremlin. And- Not only has he been in the Kremlin. He has been in Khrushchev's office in the Kremlin. And while in Khrushchev's office he has beenTALKLNG TO KHRUSH CHEV - which is all to the 1 t IT I - nkonrA gooa. Ynen jruu jjei a Liiam-t. to talk to your enemy, TALK TO HIM. Size him up. Spot his strong points and his weak points. Keep him talk ing as much as possible and do as little talking yourself as you can manage. One can't know too much about one's enemies. IT'S a safe bet in these talks Khrushchev had it in mind tn take Senator HumDhrey for a ride, if possible-as his pre decessor Stalin was fond of doing, with our people, who tried to use an interview with - him as a publicity stunt. But- There is some doubt as to whether he got away with it back in - Washington, and Ahe , first thing he did was to re port to President Eisenhower on his Kremlin talks. Mr. K- gave Senator H an . earful on the subject of wea nons and nuclear matters . which Senator H relayed to ,.the President with the cau- tious addition that what Mr. -K told him was "not as signi ficant as Mr. Khrushchev would like to have us be- lipvp" j All in all, the senator from ,; Minnesota seems to have ac- quitted; himself rather well in "this whole Russian adventure. WHY all this palaver about Senator Humphrey? 1 :' Well, it fits in rather inter estingly with an interview given early in the week - by .Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt in 'Washington. Kennedy of Massachusetts as "under ' standing courage, but not pos ' sessing the independence to HAVE courage." e She disposed of Adlai Ste i venson as being the ''best we ; could have," but as being .handicapped by his defeats i in 1952 and 1956. i opinion interesting? ? The answer is that it coin 'cides with Mr. Khrushchev's. When Mr. K spent eight hfcirs . in his Kremlin office with Senator Humphrey, it wasn't just accidental. . He too sizes up the sena tor from Minnesota as Presi dential timber. Fish Commission Adopts Shrimp Rule Portland - (UPD - The Ore gon Fish Commission Wed nesday adopted a regulation allowing commercial ocean shrimp fishermen to keep an incidental catch of not more than 3000 pounds of bottom fish in any one trip for shrimp. . . -,- Action on the question of whether to order a closed sea son on shrimp until next fall was deferred. The Commission retained the present closed season on petrale sole in Oregon waters of the Pacific, from Dec. 20 to April 15. No action was taken on a proposal that its seal hunter, William Puustinen, be per mitted to use bombs in kill ing Columbia river seals. To preserve - the present sizes of golf courses, a re search organization has been commissioned to develop a ball which will limit the drives of an expert without handicapping the average player.
