MARRIAGE LICENSE APPLICATION Charls Lee Hockersmith, Grants Pass, and Sandra Mae Wymer, Grants. The Family Council Editor's note: The Famtlj Council consists of a Judge, a psychiatrist, three clergymen, a newspaper editor, a women's editor and two writers Each article 's a summary ot an actual report The Family Council does aot give aavice; it merely reports on problem- that have been dealt with by responsible agencies and cmuuelars. Mark L. - My wife and I have been a devoted couple. We have been married nearly 20 years, but did not have a child until eight years ago -mainly due to the financial and health problems that have plagued us since we were married. These problems started les sening, but worse ones took their place. The work I fin ally settled into-pays well, but is very frustrating to me. I was not cut out for it and feel that I would be much more successful at something else. The worst blow of all hit when I realized that I was falling in love with ' a young divorcee who has been a very good friend of my wife's. This woman finally admitted that the feeling was mutual. It be came obvious to my wife and she told me to get it out of my system in other words have an affair with the other wom an. But I feel divorce is the only answer. Dora L. I care so deeply for Mark that I wouldn't want to hold him. But I do feel that his feeling for this other woman is infatuation, not love. I think that Mark should recognize that both of us have reached the stage of life where youth seems particular ly attractive and this wom an is a good 10 years younger than we are. She wants . to marry Mark, I know, but . I think it would be a mistake for both of them. She cannot possibly understand him as I do, after we have been through so much together. I am not an immoral per son, but I feel that this is the only way to save our mar riage. I know that Mark will have to get this thing out of his system. Then he'll begin to see how foolish it is. I am making a great sacri fice in going this far and Mark should be willing to make some sacrifice for me. - The Council: We don't un derstand how Dora can insist upon her morality and at the same time offer such a pro posal. But we'll assume that she is desperate and harassed to the point where she cannot think very clearly. In any Grange News... Eagle Point Grange The third and fourth de grees were given to Mrs. Claus Charley, of 'the Lake Creek Grange, Jim and Har old Arnold of Butte Falls Grange and Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Smithe of the Eagle Point Grange at the Dec. 2 meeting of the Eagle Point Grange. Roscoe Roberts of the Roxy Ann Grange served as the degree master. Other visitors were Claus Charley, Mrs. Jim Arnold and Webb Hickle. HEC chairman, Mrs. C. C. Hoover, announced the next Grange meeting on Dec. 16 would be a potluck dinner at 7 o'clock and instead of the gift exchange the money would be donated to the Grange treasury. The display table was - of homemade Christmas decora tions made by Mrs. Hoover. They were mostly made of tin craft. It was also an nounced that the program for the next meeting would be moving pictures shown by Archie Pierce of Medford on his trip to the South Pole, they will be shown at 8 o'clock. Robert Bitter ling an nounced the installation of officers for the coming year for both the subordinate and Pomona Granges would be held Dec. 7 at Central Point and at Eagle Point on Dec. 21, both meetings are called for 1:30 p.m. ' C. C. Hoover, on agricul ture, reported on the feeder sale held recently at the Mid way auction which was spon sored by the Cattlemen's as sociation, and said it was one of the most successful sales held in the west this year; he also said hog prices had been down but was coming up again and that on the av erage things were looking good for the farmer. Mabel Wertz gave a brief report on legislation and also thanked the Grange for cards and letters sent Wertz during his hospital stay at Portland, she said that he was home now and on the mend. Roscoe Roberts, insurance agent, said in a brief talk that he had been attending the insurance schools all over the state which are sponsored by the Grange Insurance, and told that a change in' insur ance rates are coming up es pecially on extended cover age. Following the meeting re freshments were served by Mr. and Mrs. Jake Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Cal Lusk, Mr. and Mrs. Lester McFall, and Mrs. Jesse Tycer ... case, we think her idea does not even have the virtue of being practical. It is likely to have the result of hurting and enmeshing everyone concern ed in such a way that they'll never see their way out. From the way Mark tells his story, we feel that he un derstands that there is a rela tionship between his work problem and his infatuation with the other woman. It ap pears that as a result of his frustration in his work, he looked about for a further means of personal expression and hit upon the area of sex and romance. 1 His problem certainly is not uncommon. We feel very strongly, however, that he is fighting a losing battle when he tries to solve things this way. An affair, or even mar riage, with the young woman will give him . a monetary sense of release. But in time he will be left with the same situation, complicated by the fact that he is committed to the support of two house holds. We suggest that Mark try to be a man and fight to find a way to release his full pow ers in the work area. (Copyright 1958, General Features Corp.)
