Beck's Doctor Tells of Being Put on Payroll Tacoma, Wash. - (LTD - Dave Beck's doctor testified at the former Teamster president's income tax evasion trial here Tuesday that he went on the payroll of the Western Con ference of . Teamsters as a "medical adviser" while a debt he owed to Beck was being repaid. Dr. Alexander Grinstein said he was paid $750 per month for 37 months, but that he never kept the money. He said he merely indorsed his pay checks and turned them ever to Beck to repay a note for $26,500, plus $1,250 on another loan he had obtained from Beck. Grinstein said his duties in cluded the setting up of a labor-management health and welfare plan, the first of its kind in the Pacific northwest and one of the first in the country. In Partnership Beck is accused by the gov ernment of evading payment of $240,000 in income taxes during the years 1950-1953. Grinstein said he had been in a partnership with Beck since 1947. This partnership involved real estate deals as well as other transactions. The $26,500 was obtained from Beck, he said, interest free. It involved money he used to purchase stock in the K. and L. Beverages, a beer distributing firm. Grinstein said he owned about 14 per cent of the firm while Beck owned about 35 per cent. Fifty-one per cent was held by Ervin J. Levine of Se attle. Another firm owned by Beck, Levine and Grinstein was the L-G-G Realty, a real STOPPING TRAFFIC on highways south of Buffalo, N. They said the men took the car from in front of Miss Ekberg's home on the Aven tine Hill and headed toward Maccarese on the Mediter ranean coast, 20 miles west of Rome. Vessels Collide In English Channel London-CPD-Two freighters collided in the fog-shrouded English channel today, tear ing the stern off one . and forcing its crew to abandon the ship. All the crewmen were res cued by tugboats and life boats. The steamers were the 11,-156-ton Greek ship King Minos II and the Greek freighter Prodromis II. The stern of the Prodromis II was ripped off by the col lision. The accident occurred in a dense fog, but the usually choppy English channel was calm.
