I Friendly Visiting Service To Hold Training Session The first training session for volunteers for the "friend ly visiting" service now being organized will be held Wed nesday November 19 from 10 a.m. until 2 pjn. at the Red Cross building across from Hawthorne park. The "friendly visitor" is the name given to volunteers who will make weekly calls on patients in nursing and private homes for the aged in Jackson county. They will perform such services as read ing, taking patients who are TOCR Cash & Carry Cleaners Fast, Friendly Service 2 Locations 844 So. Riversicb 702 W. Main able for rides, helping with hobbies and visiting. A survey made of nursing home operators recently indi cated ther,e is a real need for such a service and will be welcomed by nearly all of the homes. Mrs. Frank Fairweather, so cial service volunteer trainee for the Red Cross and Miss Agnes White and Mrs. Fred Gardner of the Jackson Coun ty Public Welfare commis sion are in charge of the training program. Mrs. S. D. Earhart and Mrs. Everett Faber are in charge of recruitment of volunteers for the program which is be ing organized by the health committee of the Rogue Val ley Council for the Aging. Those attending Wednes day's meeting are asked to bring a sack lunch. Coffee will be furnished. Meeting Announced By Gladamson Unit Gladamson unit of Wes leyan Service guild will meet Tuesday, November 18, at the home of Mrs. A. C. Gascon, well known Gold Hill couple who return ed November 6 from a week's wedding trip to southern Cal ifornia, were honored at a surprise open house given at their home, Route 1, Box 542, Gold Hill, Sunday, November 9 between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The bride is the former Mrs. Maybelle Rains, and the wedding ceremony was held in Reno, Nev., Friday, Octo ber 31 with Rev. W. R. Beem er officiating. The bride wore an informal wool dress with black acces sories. Honor attendant was Miss Barbara Rains, Medford, daughter of the bride. She wore a black jersey frock with white accessories. Others attending the bride were Mrs. Robert Goodman and Debbie Goodman, daughter and small granddaughter of the bride. The bridal corsage and those worn by her attendants were white chrysanthemums, and were made for the occasion by Mrs. George Dorman, Gold Hill, mother of the bride. Robert Goodman, Medford, son-in-law of the bride, serv ed as best man for the bride groom. After the wedding the brid al party continued on to Montclair, Calif., where they were houseguests of Mr. and Mrs. Linsley Dotson and daughter, Pamela, and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Dotson and chil dren, George and Teresa. Linsley and Joe Dotson are sons of the bride. Hosts for the surprise re ception honoring the couple last Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. John Cogswell, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Newnham, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Sutton, Mrs. Lester Parker, Mrs. Lorraine Becker, Mrs. Joe Lewis, and Mrs. Edith Thompson, all Gold Hill. A lace cloth covered the bride's table, centered with a decorated wedding cake made for the occasion by Mrs. Leo nard Kell, family friend. The cake was cut and served by Mrs. Leroy Sutton, daughter of the bridegroom, assisted by Mrs. Cassie Johnson. Mrs. Dorman, mother of the bride, poured coffee Mrs. John Cogswell was in charge of the gifts. Mrs. Les ter Parker was in charge of the guest, list. An arrangement of bronze and yellow chrysanthemums in a brown vase and a potted plant given by Mrs. J. G. Ko fahl and Mrs. Lorraine Beck er respectively completed the decorations for the affair. The bridegroom is employ ed at the Ideal Cement com pany plant in Gold Hill and the bride is employed at Cogswell's Market in Gold Hill. Both are well known in the community, and the bride is a member of a long-time Gold Hill family. She is a past noble grand of Amethyst Re bekah lodge. Flower Arranging The essentials of flower ar ranging are covered in hand books at the Jackson County Library. Taylors Honored At Dinner . Gold Hill - Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Taylor were honored at a family dinner Wednesday, November 5. in observance of their twenty-ninth wedding anniversary, Saturday, No vember 1. Mr. and Mrs. Taylor were married at Boise, Idaho, Nov. 1, 1929 and came to southern Oregon about 14 years ago. They have resided in Gold Hill and vicinity the past twelve years. He has been em ployed by the city of Gold Hill as chief of police the past five years, and sponsored the Gold Hill junior police, or ganized about two years ago for boys in this area who are interested in law enforce ment. Mrs. Taylor served as pres ident of the Gold Hill Parents Teacher association for two years. She devotes her leisure hours to the Gold Hill Girl Scouts, and the primary de partment of the Latter Day Saints church in Medford, where she and Mr. Taylor are both members. The couple are the parents of six children. Unable to be present for the occasion were Mrs. Fred Day, Bremerton, Wash., and Mrs. Aubrey Tay lor, Table Rock. Those attend ing the dinner were their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Willard Taylor, a son, Glen Taylor and their daugh ters Miss Ireta " Taylor and Miss Reba Taylor, all of Gold Hill. The dinner party was ar ranged by Miss Reba, who is a freshman at Crater High school. PTA To Discuss Consolidation Talent - The proposed con solidation of Talent-Phoenix schools will be discussed at the Talent Parent-Teacher as sociation meeting, Thursday, November 20, at 8 p.m. at the Talent high school. The discussion will be led by Roy Parr, superintendent of Talent schools, and mem bers of the Talent school board. A question and answer period will follow. Club Meets Monday Night Phoenix - Mariner's club of Phoenix Presbyterian church met at the church Monday night for the second session. There were seven couples present. j Potluck supper was served, with Mr. and Mrs. James Vencill and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Bertrand in charge. Mr. and Mrs. John Stewart conducted the meeting and program. Election of officers was dispersed with, and members decided to rotate 4he respon sibilities of the meetings. The December meeting will be arranged by Mr. and Mrs. Joe Cowley and Mr. and Mrs. William Saladin, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Marrs will take charge of meeting and pro gram. All couples interested are invited to attend. Unit of TOPS To Be Formed Persons who are interested in losing weight are invited to attend a meeting of TOPS, (take off pounds sensibly) to be held each Monday evening in the county health depart ment at the county court house. The meetings are held at 7:30 p.m. The purpose of the club is to help the overweight who are sincerely interested in los ing pounds sensibly. It is bas ed on the principle of "group therapy," getting together a group of people who have a problem in common and dis cussing it frankly without fear of being laughed at or misunderstood. The first meeting will be held Monday, November 17.
