Oregon, Sunday, November K, 19S8 Holiday Weddings Planned The Christmas holiday sea son is a popular time for wed dings, and a number of valley couples are planning their marriages for late December. Miss Sandra D. Nichols and Arthur A. Ekerson have set Sunday, December 28, as the date of their wedding. The bride-elect is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack H. Nichols, 232 "Olwell way, Medford, and Mr. Ekerson is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman L. : Ekerson, 42 South Groveland ' avenue, Medford. The Nichols moved to Med ford recently from Idaho Falls, Ida. Miss Nichols, a graduate of the Idaho Falls High school, attended the Uni- versity "of Idaho, Moscow, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma soror ity, and is now attending Southern Oregon college, ." Ashland. She is a past queen of Bethel 22, International Order of Job's Daughters, in Idaho Falls. Mr. Ekerson, a graduate of Medford High school, attend ed Southern Oregon college and the University of Oregon where he was affiliated with , Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He spent two years with the Army in Japan, serving as an instructor, and is now a part ner in the Ekerson Paint and Roof store here. Show Set Wednesday Montgomery Ward and company will unveil its holi 3ay fashions Wednesday, No vember IS, at a fashion show sponsored by the Mistletoe - club. The event will be held in the Girls Community club following a 12:30 p.m. lunch eon. Chairman of the luncheon and show is Mrs. Carl Pear son. From Eugene cornea news of the approaching marriage of Miss Elizabeth McGill to Henry F. Padgham in. The wedding has been set for Sat urday, December 27. The bride-to-be is a daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. John M. McGill, Eugene, and Mr. Padgham is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry F. Padgham Jr., 2707 Springbrook road, Med ford. Miss McGill, who holds a degree in home economics from Oregon State college, is a member of Alpha Phi soror ity. She is now on the staff of The Bon Marche, Eugene, as an executive trainee. Miss McGill was president of her sorority chapter, and also served as president of the House Presidents' coun cil. Mr. Padgham holds a bach elor of science degree in irri gation from the University of California and will be gradu ated from Oregon State col lege in June, receiving a de gree in civil engineering. He is a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity chapter at the University of California at Davis, and was president of the student body there. Roxy Ann Court To Meet Thursday Grand and supreme offic ers will be honored at a meet ing of Roxy Ann court, Order of Amarath, Thursday, No vember 20 at 8 p.m. in the Medford Masonic Temple. Fred Purdin, royal patron and Mrs. Marshall Day, royal matron, announce that there will be an election and in stallation of an associate con ductress, and initiation for a class of candidates. Stanley Jones, associate pa tron, and a committee of men members will be in charge of refreshments. Reames Social Club Announces Luncheon Reames Social club will hold the monthly luncheon at 12 o'clock Wednesday, No vember 19, at Medford Ma sonic hall. The business meeting will be followed by an afternoon of cards. All Eastern Star members are welcome to at tend. Mrs. Alva M. Perkins is chairman of the luncheon committee. Pianists To Appear In Ashland Ashland-Miss Helene Rob inson, professor of piano at Southern Oregon college, will play three duo-piano compositions with William Richards, concert pianist, during a concert this evening in the artist series in Ashland sponsored by the college. The program, to be given in Churchill hall, will start at 8 o'clock and is free to the pub lic. Mr. Richards will play a varietv of selections ranging from compositions of the ear ly classical through the ro mantic and modern period. The program will include "Sonata in D Major," Sear latti; "Fantasy in C Minor," Mozart; "Prelude, Choral and Fugue," Cesar Franck; Chop in's "Ballade in A Flat Ma jor"; Debussy's "Evening in Grenada" and "Diabolical Suggestions," Prokofieff. The three duo-piano selec tions will include "Sonata in G Major," J. S. Bach; "Var iations , on a Theme by Haydn," Brahms; and "Span ish Dances," de Falla. The guest pianist is a na tive of the west and has stud ied with teachers in Los An geles, New York and France. He has given concerts both in the United States and Eu rope. s Brigadoon Dates Set "Brigadoon" will be pre sented at the Medford High school December 4 through December 6 with John Frohn mayer, George Koch and Rosemary Doolen in the leading- roles. Pic tured during the meeting are (at left) Mrs. Willis Shepard, Eugene, .president-elect of Calendars To Be Sold As Benefit Appointment and social cal endars for 1959 which Med ford Junior Women's club is publishing will be offered for sale at the club's Fancy Foods and Fashions party Monday at 12:30 at Mon Desir.. The calendar features a complete club directory for the area with special local events not ed on the monthly pages. It is planned to be placed near the telephone and has space for personal appointments and notes. Local business firms have underwritten publishing costs so that proceeds may be chan neled into the club philan thropic fund. The Women's club mem bers are now operating a used clothing depot set up in the school system to provide ready apparel for needy child ren. The fund is to beused to supplement the donated clothing, particularly items such as underclothing, shoes and stockings. Mrs. Gene Chamberlain has been chairman of the calendar project. Mrs. David DeAr mond will be in charge of sales. Concerts Announced Seth Bullis, chairman of the Jackson County Civic Music association, has anouncedthe artists and dates of their ap-1 pearances for the association's schedule. The next concert will be held January 30 when the Griller Quartet will appear. The Quartet members are Sid ney Griller, first violin; Jack O'Brien, second violin; Phil ip Burton, viola; and Colin Hampton, violoncello. Miss Blanche Thebom, so prano, will sing in Medford February 18, and will be fol lowed in March by the ap pearance of The Rabinofs. Beno Rabinof, violinist and Sylvia Rabinof, pianist, are scheduled for March 11. The final program for the season will be the Roman Sis ters, duo-pianists, who will play in the valley May 4. Dickel, Portland, president of the Oregon Medical society, spoke concern ing the annual convention of the group which will be held in Medford in Septem ber of 1959. Dr. Dickel was accompanied to Medford by Dr. Max Parrott. Portland, secretary-treasurer of the Oregon society and chairman of the committee for the an nual session. Dr. Huldrick Kammer, Port land, and Roscoe Wilson, executive secre tary of the Oregon Medical society. Women Golfers Elect Officers Officers to serve the com ing year were elected by Women's Golf association of Rogue Valley Country club at the recent annual dinner. The new officers are Mrs. Fred Conrad, chairman; Mrs. Russell Heysell, vice - chair man; Mrs. Deane Lambert, secretary; Mrs. William Kay bak, treasurer; Mrs. Fred Coleman, tournament chair man. RVWG trophies were awarded. Mrs. B. D. Collins was winner with Mrs. Frank Benesh as the runner-up. In the nine-hole group the Seg gessenmann trophy was won the p re -h olid byrModer the state auxiliary; Mrs. Durno and Mrs. Ray Casterline. Mrs. Durno, a registered nurse active in both her profession and as a member of the auxiliary, now finds her self with a new responsibility since her hus band was elected state senator for Jackson county earlier this month. Parents Announce Betrothal News Mr. and Mrs. L. W. ,Ling scheit, route 3, box 169T1, Medford, announce the en gagement of their daughter, Sonja Joyee, to Clarence David Johnson, son of the late Rev. and Mrs. James V. John son who made their home here. Miss Lingscheit and Mr. Johnson are both graduates of Medford High school. Medford Riders To Take Part In Pony Express Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Belz, Ashland, explained the Ore gon Centennial pony express run planned for 1959 at the November 8 meeting of the Medfprd Trail Riders at the Willow Springs school, Cen tral Point. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Gray, Cherry lane, and the bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Keith Bates, 1714 East Main street Medford. The rites were read by the Rev. J. Stanley Barlow at Westminster foundation on the University of Oregon campus. Mr. Gray gave his daughter in marriage. The bride wore a white wool street length dress with white satin trim and a small veil held by a bow on her hair. She carried i white bible, the bridegroom's gift, with a white orchid. Miss Lois Kelly, Medford, attended the bride. She wore pale brown knit suit and carried gold and brown chrys anthemums. Gregory Orr, Medford, was best man for the bridegroom.
