November 14. 1958 11 SPORTS Willamette Tangle Has Limelight United Press International There are two counting fames in the Northwest con- ference this week end but most of the interest centers on champion Willamette's game against Arizona State of Flag staff. Willamette, which wrapped up the title last week, travels to Yuma, Ariz., for a Satur day night game with the Ari zona team. The two teams are the only unbeaten, untied col lege football squads on the West Coast. Willamette is ranked 14th in the nation in the United Press International small col lege poll and Arizona State is sixth in the same poll. Conference eames send Col lege of Idaho to Linfield and Lewis and Clark to Pacific Whitman is idle. Nehring Leads Jack Nehring of Pacific has moved into first place among Northwest conference ground gainers with 807 yards in 193 trier, compared to 722 yards in 108 tries for Stan Solomon of Willamette. Solomon has the best average among the leaders with a 6.7 per try mark. Charlie Alvaro of College of Idaho is far ahead in pass ing with 1100 yards on 8Z completions in 172 tries. Willamette leads in team rushing with 2377 yards, t 297.1 ner eame mark. Willam ette leads in defense by limit ing foes to 705 yards from rushing and a total of 1257. Gary Raid, Willamette tackle, and Nehring were named the lineman and back of the week for last week's play. BOWLING First National bank look a 3-1 match from Southern Oregon Moulding to win the first round of Cily Bowling league contention.
