4 4A MAIL TRIBUNE, Medford, Oregon, Tuesday, November 11, 1958 TABLE ROCK Nealon Talks By R. E. NEALON Table Rock -With all the campaigning hullabaloo dur ing the past month over radio, television, and in the news papers, and the many appeals to the voters to get out and vote, one would think that in a wideawake community about all the eligible voters would get to the polls on elec tion day and cast at least one vote for their favorite candi date. But after checking, we find out of a population of some 100 plus eligible voters in this community, 27 failed to make ' it to the polls. Some were unable to vote owing to illness, some were away, a few didn't register. one or two had never regis tered. One lady stated that they change the voting pre cinct so often that she can't keep up. Ed Taylor said this was the 'first time he had missed vot ing except when he was in the service. This time he was called away unexpectedly Mary Darling says that when you are running a dairy, which she likens to a slave camp they don't have time to go any distance to vote, Another one of our local farmers has taken on a side line, Ray Ryan having joined the Watkins - Malone Realty company of Medford, who boast of their brand of qual ity and service. According to the name, there must be an other Irishman in the firm, and if he is as energetic, tire less, and with as much wind, they should go places. Ray came down the other morning and almost sold us our own farm. He says among otheer listings they have the Table Top ranch here of 2,500 acres, and they have many inquiries from people with money and regular incomes. Answering a question as to whether the recent election would have any effect on real estate sales he said it would give them a boost, as with cheaper money, many people would invest in farm land. Born to Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Robinson, Oct. 27, was a boy, 7 pounds, 7 ounces, at the Rogue Valley hospital. This is the Robinson's ,third boy, and has been named Brent Russell. The November meeting of the local Ladies club, Wed- 1 nesday, Nov. 12, will be held at the home of Mrs. Morris -Frink on Beall lane. We are sorry to hear that Dell Morrison, our good neighbor in the east side, is a patient ot the Jacksonville sanitarium. The recent death of Mrs. Bess Allen, wife of A. C. Al len Sr., came as a surprise and severe shock to her many friends here. Mrs. Allen was a kindly, generous lady, with a cheery smile and encourag ing words to all she met, and will be greatly missed. On old-fashioned party at the Ernest Smith home was held Monday by the ladies of the Bigham clan. The John Pogue family, former residents here, where Pogue had charge of the milk ing at the Darling dairy, are now residents of Camp White. Pogue is employed at the Bunny Crest dairy there. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith and three children are living at the Darling dairy. Smith is in charge of the milking oper ations there. A Halloween costume party was held Oct. 31 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Smith for the young adults of the West Main, Medford, Church of Christ. Decorations of corn stalks, jack-o-lanterns, bats, blackcats, Indian corn and huge spider webs, created a Halloween atmosphere. Sound effects were created by the witches brew bubbling in an old iron pot. Exterior decora tions created a corn field in front of the house with corn stalks, jack-o-lantern ghosts, and a wise old owl. Refresh ments of cider and dougnuts were served to the 22 guests. The cider was served from a unique punch bowl, fashioned from a large pumpkin. Prizes for the best costumes were won by Mrs. Ralph Woods, Ashland, and Bill Cate, Cen tral Point. Scenery that is unsurpassed comes into view when coming from the south, across Bybee bridge, directly north, one sees the stripes on the slopes of Table Rock, caused by the autumn leaves of the pear trees, each variety having dif ferent colors, arranged in rows which form the stripes. As you journey along, to your left you see the green pastures of the Darling dairy farm, sprinkled with black and white holstein dairy cows, some distance farther, you turn the corner into the two mile straightaway bound ed on each side by the Hull orchards now in their fall at tire, so colorful and radiant that you want to slow down to prolong the scene. - From here, you get out of the orchard belt, but into scenery equally impressive, with many homes, shade trees, lawn.s green fields and live stock, with lower Table Rock in all its grandeur, seeming to be close enough to touch, with upper Table Rock standing guard on your right. Next time you pass this way, slow down, enjoy this scene, and note that while Medford folk are striving to make their city beautiful, na ture has done this for us free of charge. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Mat teson made a flying trip to Tacoma, Wash., to attend a farewell party for a member of the Boyle Medical com pany. Bear Creek Has Magazine Spread The Christmas campaign of Harry and David's Bear Creek Orchards will be highlighted by a "spectacular" advertise ment in the December issue of Holiday magazine, it was announced. This campaign for the Med ford fruit shipper's "Fruit-of-the Month club" display con sists of a double-page, spread with a four-color insert of eight one-quarter pages form ing a "Collection of Christmas Gifts 1958." This can "be torn from the magazine as a gift guide. Theme of the campaign is "Shopping for Surprises with Harry aid David." The adver tisement contains photos and testimonials for Harry and David's fruit from several na tionally known figures includ ing Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt, Baron Silvercruys, Belgian ambassador to the United States and Capt. Eddie Ricker backer. Advertisements will appear also in Fortune and Time, but without the insert, it was re ported. FOR SALE by Executrix 135 Acre Farm and House 2 Miles from Medford Bead Lane.
