November 7. 1958 3 GOLD HILL " Halloween Program Held Gold Hill - Eighty-lour chil dren in the Gold Hill area participated in the United j Nation's International Chil dren's Emergency Fund pro gram here for the first time on Halloween. It was spon sored by the Gold Hill Parent Teacher association. A total of $22 was collected by the children, most of which was pennies. Reports from chairmen are that the majority of people contributing had treats as well as donations. All young sters working in the program Volunteered. Several chairmen report that there was no other trick or treat callers in their neighborhoods except for the UNICEF project. PTA officials, Mrs. Ogden Kellogg, general chairman in charge of arrangements; and co-chairmen expressed appre ciation to all who participated in the project. , Several parties were held in conjunction with the UNICEF program. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rose crans were host at their home on Kanes Creek for a mas querade party with 29 attend ing. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Wakeman, who are both in their eighties, depicted the president of the United States and his wife for the occasion. Halloween refreshments were served to Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Johnson, and sons, Melvin, David, and Marvin; Mr. and Mrs. Lester Wake man and children, Leslie, and Steven; Mr,, and Mrs. Jack Williams and sons, Dwayne and Jimmy; Mr. and Mrs. Leo Rosecrans and children. Jess, Jan and Connie; Mrs. Walter Gemeinhardt and daughter, Susan, the Richard Wakemans and the Rosecrans two daugh ters, Susan and Carol, all of Kanes Creek, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Baker of Medford and Ireta Taylor of Gold Hill. ' In the Old Stage rd. vicin ity, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hix son were hosts to a hot-dog upper party for parents and children prior to the collec tion. Attending were Mrs. Jesse Flenner and children, Leanne, Dennis, Penny and Merl; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Vail, and children Douglas, Walter Jr., and Dennis; Mrs. Fred Bald win and daughter, Crissie; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schmidt and sons, Mark and Gregg; Geraldine and Susan Elbert; Barbara Schatz; and the Hix son's daughters, Marylin and Lorraine, and son David. . -- A" party also was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ogden Kellogg. Mrs. Kenneth Fluck was chairman of the group for the UNICEF pro gram. Participating were Mrs. Harold Hocker and children, Cheryl, Cindy and Gary; Mrs. Leonard McMahan and sons, Douglas and Steven; the Kel- logg's children, Ogden Jr., Tom, Dan and Cynthia; and Melinda and Robin Fluck Mrs. Donald Arseth, chair man of the Upper River rd., served refreshments to the fol lowing children who partici pated: Joan and Linda Hil- key; Dick Calhoun, Charlotte, Kathy Lucy and Stanley Vol- mert; and Lyn, Tom and Bev erly Arseth. Mrs. .Rolland Rosecrans chairman of the Galls Creek area served refreshments to five children who took part in the UNICEF program in ' that area, Danny, and Jimmy Estremado: Ronda, Rebeka and Tamara Rosecrans ", Gregory Applen worked for the UNICEF program in- the Old South Pacific highway and Blackwell Hill area, where the Rev. Delbert Casey, pastor of Church in the Pines, was chairman. Mrs. Gene Holderness, chairman for Lampman rd. vicinity was assisted by Mrs. Bill Davis and Mrs. Lavalle Black. Youngsters participat ing in this area were Renee Holderness, Glenn Davis and Dean Black. - Mrs. Harry Quinn, chair man for Highway 99 north, area said that no one called for UNICEF banks in this area. The Gold Hill Lion's club provided cider and dough nuts for 23 youngsters who participated in the UNICEF program within the city limits. Candy and gum was furnished by Mrs. Rex Alli son, Mrs. Edsel White, Mrs. Sam Jones, H. D. Force and Mrs. Clyde Kell, who were in charge. Children taking part were Patty, Carol, and Larry Washburn, Kenneth, Jimmy and Gary Martin, Ronnie Brown, Marie and Billy Jones, Carol White, Larry j and Janice Neilson, Jackie, 1 Janice and Kimbra Straus, , Shirley Kell, Mae and Mar garet tBrown, Mike, Randy and Bobby Turner, Robert i Allison and David Force. Mrs. Rolland Washburn as sisted as chaperon. About 50 sixth grade stu dents and parents attended the annual costume Halloween party in the Hanby gym under the supervision of the two sixth grade teachers, ' Mrs. Mildred Black and Mr. Allen Hill. A committee of sixth grade girls planned the refreshments for the social hour, under the direction cf Mrs. Delos Walk er, Mrs. Norman Gail, ' Mrs. Arthur Boye and Mrs. Ted Schoenemann. About 220 students of the Patrick' and Hanby schools took part in the masquarade parade in observance of Hal loween in the Hanby gym.
