Friday, October 31, children are asked to take part in. this "great service for all the world's children" by collect- 4-H Club News Rogue River Dairy Club The Rogue River 4-H Dairy club met to reorganize at the home of the leaders, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Parsons, Saturday, Oct 18. Five new members were enrolled for the coming year. Officers elected were Da vid ' Carter, president; Ann Cordes, vice president; Mari lyn Deckleman, secretary; Linda Cornutt, historian; and Lanny Parsons, reporter. The coming achievement program was discusse'd, and we practiced for the skit we will put on. Mrs. Parsons served cider, doughnuts, and Halloween candies to the members and guests. Members and their parents of the Rogue River 4-H Dairy club attended the achieve ment program put on Monday Oct. 27 at the Grange hall in Wimer. A potluck dinner was served before the . program. Glenn Klein and Marilou Gar ner, 4-H agents, presented pins and cards to members who had completed club work this year. Our club scrap book, and the herdsmanship trophies we won at the fair were on dis play. Lanny Parsons, Reporter. UNICEF means the United Nations Children's Fund, and the project here is sponsored by Medford chapter, Oregon United Nations association. The chairman, Mrs. Marrs Gibbons, has announced the following plan for children who would like to partici pate. 1 Children are to go to the gymnasium of the school they attend at 6 p.m. , 2 The official tag and car ton bank for collections will be given the children at the school. 3 After ringing doorbells for a time, the children are to return to the school, "turn in their collections and then be treated to cider and doughnuts furnished by Medford service clubs. 4 In case a child wishes to assist and is unable to take part on Halloween night, small sums will help small childi en elsewhere and can be sent to the UNICEF Hallo ween chairman, Mrs. Marrs Gibbons, Route 2, Box 452, Medford. Write-In Candidate To Seek Council Post Cave Junction Ellsworth V. Cooke has announced he will run as a write-in candi date for councilman on the Cave Junction city ballot Tuesday, Nov. 4. Two vacancies on the city council are to be filled from the four candidates. Three names printed on the ballot are William Howland, Jewell Bunch and Ruth Rausch, with Ellsworth Cooke as a write-in candidate. There have been 96 mem bers of the Senate two from each state since March 27, 1912, when Senators were sworn in from the newly cre ated states of Arizona and New Mexico. Two Alaska Sen ators will bring the member ship to 98. . House membership has been held since 1913 at 435, the fig ure to which it was enlarged after the census of 1910. Alas ka's new Congressman will in crease the membership to 436. However, this figure is scheduled to revert to 435 in 1963 in the Congressional re apportionment which will fol low the 1960 census. GE Offers Atomic Eleciricily Plan New York 0JPI) The Gen eral Electric Company offered the nation an atomic electri city plan today designed to enable housewives to start cooking on all four nuclear burners by 1965 without any hike in utility bills. GE presented a 12-year, $350 million program, under which the nation would be ready for full-scale entry into the age of nuclear power by 1970. But first would come a sort of dress rehearsal for the time when homes across the nation would be plugged into wires humming with atomic energy. GE wants to start by sell ing utilities small. $4 million package plants so they . can learn the problems of produc ing nuclear power and-consumers can get used to the idea of having nuclear reactors perking away m their , midst. But Congress will have to decide how long the Senators are to serve. One will be given a term of either two or four years, the other four or six. The governor will be elected to a four-year term, and the Congressman will serve two years. The Senate races pit -Republican Michael Stepovich against Democrat Ernest Gruening, and Republican R. E. Robertson against Demo crat E. L. (Bob) Bartlett. Henry A. Benson is the GOP nominee for the House. His Democratic opponent is Ralph, J. Rivers.
