He said this was an "illu s o r y and impossible" ap proach to government. Hatfield also came in for criticism Monday night at the Multnomah County Central Labor Council meeting. George Brown, chief of or ganized labor's committee for Political Education, declared that Hatfield "stands firmly on both sides of any issue you want to raise in the state of Oregon." He called the Sec retary's campaign "political trickery" and an attempt to mean all things to all people. Thornton Pinball Ruling Reversed Dallas, Ore. - (LTD - Circuit Judge Arlie Walker has upset an opinion by Oregon Attor ney General Robert Y. Thorn ton that free-play pinball ma chines are illegal. Walker's opinion came in a declaratory judgment suit brought by Marshall McKee, W o o d b u r n, distributor of amusement machines, against Thornton and Polk County District Attorney Walter Fos ter. Earlier this year, Thornton said that getting free plays from such machines was ob taining something of value and that therefore they were illegal under Oregon law. However, Walker said the machines were legal. Salem -(UPD- The State Fair Commission will ask the 1959 Legislature for $85,000 to aug ment its $1,231,274 budget.
