Fund program, "The Trick is to Treat" program, being spon sored for the first time in this area by the Gold Hill Parent Teacher association on Hal loween night, Friday, Octo ber 31. Children taking part will be .requested to work in their own neighborhoods. Chairmen have been named for each section of the com munity, and each chairman will distribute the proper containers and identification tags, and arrange for refresh ments for only those who par ticipate. Instead of the usual hand out of candies, etc., these children will collect small coins which -will be used to purchase food and medicine for needy children in all parts of the world. Officials of the PTA unit wish to point out that participation is optional. Children participating in the "penny drive" will do so strictly on a volunteer basis and will have proper identifi cation given to them by au thorized adults. When the youngsters return to their re spective home stations with the cartons for which they are responsible, they will re ceive treats. Interested par ents may contact the chair man in their own vicinity for additional information, and are invited to offer their help. Mrs. Ogden Kellogg, Sar dine creek, is in charge of ar rangements. Other chairmen are Mrs. Donald Arseth, Upper River road; Mrs. Ralph Hix son, Old Stage road; Mrs. Charles, Rosecrans, Kanes Creek road; Mrs. Kenneth fFluck, Sardine creek; the Rev. Delbert Casey, pastor of Church in the Pines, Old South Pacific Highway and Blackwell Hill area; Mrs. Gene Holderness, Lampman road; Mrs. Harry Quinn, Casa Rouge Motel, Highway 99 north area; Mrs. Roland Rosecrans, Galls Creek road. Separate arrangements have been made by each of these chairmen to keep youngsters in their own neighborhoods, where refreshments will be served only to children who participate in the "penny drive" in their respective neighborhoods. Mrs. Clyde Kell and Mrs Sam Jones are in charge of arrangements within the city limits of Gold Hill. Children who wish to participate in the UNICEF program will go -to the cafeteria at 6 p.m. Friday nigh at the Hanby school to receive cartons and identifi cation. Then they will re turn to their own neighbor hoods within the city limits to ring door bells. These chil dren will be requested to re turn to the cafeteria no later than 8 p.m. to check in. Due to the large number of young sters within the city limits, the Lion's club is furnishing refreshments for these chil dren who take part in the drive. Officials of the PTA wish Eagle. Point PTA Slates Meeting Eagle Point - October J is parent - teacher association membership month. Mrs. Mar tin Jorde and r Mrs. Robert Bever, membership chairmen of the Eagle Point Elementary Parent - Teacher association have announced that they are working to increase last year's enrollment, and will be pres ent to welcome new members at the meeting of the associa tion Tuesday, October 28, at 8 p.m., in the grade school auditorium. Mrs. Joe Shelton and James Collier,' program chairmen, have announced that Mrs. Owen Kunkel, president of the Jackson County Council of Parents and Teachers, has planned a program for this meeting based on an explana tion and discussion of the PTA tuition scholarship pro gram and how it applies to the Eagle Point community. Martin Jorde, PTA presi dent, will call for suggestions from the floor for a project for this year. Refreshments will be served by mothers of children in the eighth grade. , to stress to residents in all sections of the community that the new idea is optional and that no one should feel he need give both treats and pennies when the youngsters call. Crusade Announced Chairmen and workers who will conduct the annual Home Crusade of the United Med ford Crusade will meet Mon day at 10 a.m. .in the Red Cross building for a "kick off coffee." Mrs. E. R. Hoppe, general chairman, points out that the Home Crusade, a house-to-house canvass, will be conducted Tuesday. Colonels, captains and all workers are asked to attend the coffee. A film will be shown, and workers will re ceive their kits and instruc tions. Quota for the Home Crusade this year is $3,000. Colonels for the crusade are Mrs. Scott Wickersham, Mrs. C. H. Herman Jr., Mrs. Ed ward Sickels, Mrs. M. H. Hurt, Mrs. Richard F. Traylor, Mrs. Lawrence Buonocore, Mrs. Milo Kubalek and Mrs. Walter Smith. Working with these eight women are 34 captains and scores of other women. Mrs. Hoppe states that since Monday morning's meeting will be brief, women may bring their children if they wish. ', LVWG ! Reese Creek Unit Changes Meeting Reese Creek Reese Creek Home Extension unit will meet Wednesday, Nov. 5, in stead of Tuesday, because of the general election on No vember 4. The - meeting . will com mence at 10:30 a.m. at the home of Mrs. Kenneth Dufur. Ball road. The project lesson on "Improving Ourselves as Hostesses" will be presented by Mrs. James Martinson and Mrs. Grace Kelley. Each member is asked to bring a new handkerchief to the meeting. Chapter Pledges Honored Sunday At Davis Home A preferential tea honoring new pledges of Beta Upsilon chapter' of Beta Sigma Phi was held Sunday afternoon, noon, October 19 at the home of Mrs. Scott Davis. The re freshment table was decorated with fall flowers and candles and Mrs. Richard Knoll, pres ident of the chapter, poured. A chapter meeting was held October 21 at the home of Mrs. DeVon Wray. It was the third anniversary ' of the group, and gifts were ex changed by the members. A birthday cake decorated with candles was served by the hsotess, Mrs. Wray and the co-hostess, Mrs. Dale Hogan The cultural program was presented by Mrs. Arthur Brooks. Her topic was "Self-Analysis". During the business meet ing final plans were made for a barn dance for members and guests at Thurston's dance studio on November 1. It will be a potluck dinner followed by games and dancing. The chapter also made pre liminary plans for the formal pledge ritual, to be held No vember 4 at the home of Mrs, Mel Hogan. An international party will be held October 24 at the Red Cross building by all chapters in Medford and the Ashland chapters of Beta Sigma Phi will be their guests. .
