Medford, Ore., Wednesday, October 22. 1958 Annual Scout Meeting Slated Borrowing the motto of the new Exploring program, the theme of the 34th anniversary meeting of the Crater Lake Council, Boy Scouts of Amer ica, will be "Our Best Today For a Better Tomorrow." The annual event will be Sunday, Nov. 9, at the Rogue Valley Country club, Med ford, with the business meet ing and a ladies' program be ginning at 4 p.m. The recog nition banquet will be held at 6 p.m. Mrs. F. L. Somers will be in charge of the ladies' pro gram, which will be held at her home at 36 Glen Oak ct., Medford. In addition to the annual election of officers, the meet ing will include the presenta tion of veterans awards, gold en leaders' awards for excep tional service as unit leaders, and the silver awards for out standing service to boyhood in the Crater Lake council. More than 200 scouters and their wives are expected to attend from Jackson, Jose phine and Siskiyou counties. Officials Seek Cause of Blast Uniontown, Pa. (CPU Offi cials today sifted through the debris of a building in which nitroglycerine was manufac tured in an effort to learn what may have touched off an explosion that killed four men and injured three others. But there was little hope that a cause of the blast would be uncovered since the struc ture was reduced to rubble. The explosion occurred at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the gel atin cartridge nt building of the Liberty Powder De fenst Corp., six miles north of here. The dead were identified as Robert Trimbath, 49, Mor rell, Pa., father of five chil dren; Leonard MnGee, 39, al so of Morrell; Len Burns, 41, Uniontown, and John Holub, Dunbar, Pa. John Morris, 48, Union town, and David Caffey, 30, Footdale, Pa., were admitted to Uniontown hospital. Mor ris suffered face cuts and Caffey is being treated for shock. A third worker .re ceived a face cut but was not hospitalized. Impact of the explosion could be felt 10 miles away at the Conrtellsville State hos pital. Many windows in near by Mt. Braddock were shat tered by force of the blast. F. San Francisco - (LTD - Presi dent Eisenhower, in a "coffee hour" appearance before his speech here Tuesday, defend ed the record of his adminis tration in answers to a wide variety of questions. In his discussion with 24 Republican women the Presi dent said in answer to a ques tion "I have taken no stand" on Proposition 18, the con troversial measure on the California ballot which would ban union membership as a condition of employment. Up To Each State "I want to straighten out the record," he said. "I speak from the national viewpoint. Section 14B of the Taft-Hart ley act gives each state the right to decide this question. I have always supported Sec tion 14B and I have always believed the States should de termine what they want to do." . Eisenhower also gave these answers to questions: Quemoy and Matsu "There is only one way for freedom to defend itself against a Communist dictator ship. We must stand by prin ciple. And that principle is that we will not permit Com munist territorial expansion by force." Instrument Gives Orchestra Sounds Tokyo-(UPI)-A Japanese firm today unveiled an electronic instrument that can produce the sounds of a 24-piece or chestra. The organ-like instrument, called the "Electone," uses 184 keys, 32 pedals, eight rhythm buttons and four rhythm pedals to produce the sounds of 24 percussion, brass, wood-wind and string instruments. A total of 2,000 transistors and 15 microphone sound am plifying units went into the instrument. It was displayed at Japan's week-long audio fair, which opened today at the National Athletic stadium in Tokyo. The Nippon Musical Instru ments Mfg. company of Tokyo made the "Electone," which it plans to display at an audio fair in the United States in 1959. Boy Scouts R. D. Wolfl badges were awarded to Kerry Lumley, David Nun ley and Don Stine. Bear .badg es were awarded Mark Ferns, Joe Thompson, Bob Graham and Billy Edwards. Lion badg es went to Mike Graham, Wally Kleiver, Mike Claflin and Kenny Carr. Webelo cer tificates were presented to Steve Lubbers and Ken Shear in before they were welcom ed into Troop 15 of the Boy Scouts. Elective Arrows were earn ed by Kerry Lumley, Glade Turnbough, Danny Zundell, Don Adams, Wally Kleiver, Kenny Carr, Mike Claflin. Some 500 senior students are expected to register for classes this week, when the new school opens its doors. S. demands for the immediate release of two Americans kid naped Monday from the Tex as Company's Santiago oil re finery. Kenneth D. Drewes, Joliet, 111., and Charles R. Bennett (no U. S. address) were snatched along with seven Cubans. ' They were the first foreign ers kidnaped by the rebels since June, when they made off with about 50 Americans. They were released only after protracted negotiations. Ambassador Earl E. T. Smith has instructed the Santiago consulate to take a "firm stand" in demanding the release of the newly-kidnaped Americans without delay."
