Birmingham, Ala. (LTD
Charges filed Monday against
13 Negroes set the stage for a
legal test of Birmingham's

The Negroes, nine men and
four women, were lodged in
city jail Monday on charges of
disorderly conduct, conspi

cause a breach of the peace,
They were placed under bond
of S900 each.
The Negroes boarded two

The seating laws had been
under attack in the courts.

Lack Risks Health
Washington-(UPD-Arthur S

Flemming said the number
of paralytic polio cases in
creased this year for the first
time since the Salk vaccine

indifference" on the part of
parents for a lag in vaccina
tions.
He told a news conference
that there were 1,815 cases
of paralytic polio during the
first nine months of this year,
238 more than in the same
period of 1957.
