INFANTS' SHOP SECOND FLOOR 05 Candidates to Talk Tomorrow At C of C Noon Roundtable Candidates seeking state legislative offices will speak at Jackson County Chamber of Commerce Roundtable meetings tomorrow and Mon day, Oct. 27. Several questions have been compiled by the cham ber and submitted to candi dates to answer during a 10 minute period at the noon luncheons. Democratic candi dates . will visit the Round- table meeting tomorrow in the Pioneer room of the Jack son hotel. Republican candi dates will attend next week's luncheon and answer the same questions. The questions regard basic issues which may occur at the 1959 Oregon state legisla ture. The questions were sub mitted to candidates in ad vance to allow each candidate the opportunity of examining the issues in order to frame specific answers. Those seeking legislative offices include Dr, Edwin R. Durno, Republican candidate for state senator; Gordon Hudson, Democratic candi date for state senator; Mrs. Marijane B. Duncan and in cumbent Robert B. Duncan, Democratic candidates for representative; and Melvin J. Lattie and Mrs. Evelyn Nye, Republican candidates for representative. Following are the ques tions asked of each candidate: Unemployment Compensation 1. Do you feel that the present unemployment com pensation benefits and eligi bility requirements should be restricted, remain the same or made more liberal? Why? 2. Would you be in favor of employee contributions to an expanded unemployment compensation program if the issue came up? Why? 3. Do you favor changing the name from Unemploy ment Compensation to Em ployment Security? Why? Improving Oregon'i Business Climate 1. Would you favor a pro posal permitting manufactur ers to include equipment and machinery as a personal prop erty tax off-set against their 6 per cent corporate excise tax and extending this broadened tax off-set privilege to all business firms in Oregon, not just those in manufacturing and food processing? CLUB NEWS Central Point Knitting Our. meeting was Oct. 11 and was called to order by out-going President Carolee Kuest. We elected Marilyn Watson as president, Shirley Roach as vice president, Kathy Thompson as secretary, Linda Johnson as reporter, and Carol Roach as song leader. We haven't decided on a name for our club yet. We are to knit blocks for a blanket which will be given to Camp White. Our meetings will be held the third Satur day of the month. Fire Insurance Agent Mur ray Bartling announced that this was "fire prevention week." He stated that the Chicago fire was in 1909; causing the naming of the week in remembrance of that conflagration. Members are reminded to examine their house roofs before the begin ning of the rainy season. " Ellyn Charley, legislative committee, announced that all members should form a "car-lift" for anyone in the community that is without transportation for the election on Nov. 4. Master Merton Bradshaw announced that he had a sup ply of books from the Soil Conservation district for any one wishing to take one. HE chairman Nora Brad shaw was visiting her sister, Mrs. Hazel Ulrich, at Pros pect. Betty Bradshaw an nounced that the square dance party was well attended. It is hoped to have another party on Nov.'l, but there is a need for music. The birthdays of . Howard and Jane Blair and Loyd George were honored.
